A different question for you Jimbo...

How would it effect handling if the suspension is set up opposite than normal. The air sleeves I am going to be running are built on shortened Tokico struts and I know riding on air is like using a softer spring than stock. In your opinion, do you think it will create any weird feelings or bounce? Can you overdampen the suspension?
Of course I am not looking for good handling but I want it to ride very smooth this time so I am bypassing the air cylinders.
I know that in the Prelude it has to be at about 150 psi to get the front end up so I am guessing that is what the spring rate would be. The rear is obviously going to be a lot lower but I don't know exactly where it sits.

Well in a certain respect it's safer than underdampning. Bounce is from underdampning, on rebound. But it effectively increases the spring rates. Making the suspension feel stiffer. That is because it is restricting the movement of the suspension more. Get to much overdampning and you won't be able to let the suspension do it's job of moving when it need's to.

As an example when you encounter a bump overdampning will reduce how much the suspension moves to absorb the bump. And when you go over the bump the suspension is restricted from moving down to recover afterwords. So the sensation is, a stiff bump followed by comming down off the bump quickly. It's a weird feeling that you have to experience to really understand. It just depend's on how overdampned you are.

I searched for a really long time to try and find some sort of resource on the net that could explain it better than me, but I couldn't find anything at all. If you feel like you need more info to make a choice I recommend that you call gordon at koni, he's really nice and know's his stuff. 859-586-4100. I wouldn't use the words air shock, just tell him you were told that adding Koni sports will make your car overdampned, and what does that term mean.

    Hope that helps,

    Jim C.

I am really not worried about it. I am not that picky, it was just something that i thought of while I was sitting at work.

I was just wondering technically what happens when it is overdamped and I got my answer.
    Thanks Jim.

I don't think that it will be overdamped enough to make a difference since the struts will be no stiffer than stock. It is kind of a strange idea going with a spring that is softer than stock.
I know that I have ridden in trucks with airbags and they ride like limos and most of them still handle a little better than stock. I hope mine is like that too.
