Strange Acceleration Problem
When I start off of a stop sign and floor it - it revs up and I take off, but it doesn't leave 1st gear right away, it keeps flowing past 6.5 redline and sounds like it is pulling (auto transmission mind you). It keeps pulling until I let off my accelerator, drop past 4,000 rpms and then accelerate again. The transmission was replaced because of this problem, any other ideas on what it could be?

check your tranny cable for binding and try changing your tranny fluid.
that's what mine did, and my uncle (a mech) passed it off as the nature of the car... he said don't worry about it until it's stopped running... try not flooring it at the stopsigns...

Change to Honda Tranny Fluid. It worked on my friends civic with same problem. Might be the cable also. Do check that.
Hey Vanilla, my dad is a mechanic and he said the exact same thing "Don't gun it off a stop sign or a red light." Well that's nice...

the tranny fluid may play a part, so could the cable... check that out and report back... we know the cars will go without that behavior, so we know it can be corrected

Well the reason that it can't be the cable is because this: well let me start from the beginning. With my original Accord Trans my car started to do this in 2nd gear, a specialist told me it was common for it to happen in my year model car. (He said that in essence 2nd and 4th gear became welded together). I had him replace the transmission, and he said that an 87 lude transmission would match up - no problem. Well there were problems because the spider gears on the shaft were different, as was the starter. Also the cable wouldn't push into park anymore. The specialist changed the cable and finally got my car working, but now it seems to happen in first gear, as opposed to 2nd in the old tranny.

I'd check your fluid levels...
anyways your cable may still be the problem.
Too tight and the car will rev past 6,500 rpm. Too loose and you start shifting gears real early, like before you reach 3,000 rpm.
2nd gear WILL NOT SHIFT you can hold 2nd till 10,000 rpm if you wanted to. Since 2 is a single gear... unlike drive selection. D3 & D4.
D3 will let you use gears 1, 2, and 3.
Once you reach 3rd you can again rev to 10,000 rpm if you wanted to, since 3rd is the maximum drive gear allowed n D3.
D4 uses all gears.
Anyways slippage is normal in an old trans... mine has done it from time to time going up hill.

Just wondering, does the tranny seem any sportier or better? I want to do this with my car since my tranny is really starting to slip bad and shift hard.

HostilJava: It seems to shift in between 2nd and 3rd nicely, I heard the gear ratio is closer together on the prelude transmission. The spider gears on the ends of the shaft and the starter need to be changed. You also will have to shimmy the shifter so it can reach all the gears and get into park as well.

try running original atf fluid.
if you like to floor your car you better do conversion to manual tranny a lot less problem...
