Hi Guys,

I found this place after browsing to find some facts on my latest ride. I've never owned a Honda or really had too much to do with them before ( always had Fords or Toyotas ) Anyway on my hunt for a new daily I uncovered a real gem, an 87 Accord auto sedan with only 120,000 kms on the clock! It had been sitting basically unused for the last 4 years since it's owner passed away, he purchased it brand new a week after retiring and treated it like his baby. The interior is spotless, not a stain or rip, the paint is incredible.. it's lived in a garage all it's life! After giving it a good service, changing out all the deteriorated gaskets and seals the only issues I found was a damaged oil pan ( which REALLY needs replacing ) and for some reason the timing was wayyyy too advanced! The only real cost was the new exhaust system, 2.25" custom made with a bullet cat, but it performs much better and sounds sweet so it's worth it. I found a lude a guy was wrecking locally here, I'm getting the 14" factory alloys and the front seats from him, also scored an aftermarket front bar the previous owner was planning to fit ( not sure if it's lude or integra? but it fit's up perfect, got it in primer atm ) next up I'm ordering a weapon r intake and a installing new stereo system ( I'll post some pics up soon )

Great find! If you have a lot of bad seals, consider changing the oil pump seals (both of them). If they fail, you can lose oil pressure and burn up your engine without ever seeing an oil light. It's a heart-breaking way to lose an engine.

uh yeah, I thought of that too when i was chasing leaks. Pity i didn't think of it before i had the timing belt done! I'm not too confident taking on that by myself so I'll have to try and bribe someone into helping me out. I'm still not 100% happy with the timing either, as i said it was very advanced when i got it and was still pinging after the belt was changed. I got put onto a mechanic who used to work for a Honda dealership, he got it running pretty good but it still makes a light pinging noise under load sometimes.

Where is this type of leak visible?

It ain't. The only warning I got was when my lifters started tapping. I was a few hundred miles from home and decided that an engine would be cheaper than a tow. I got home and it was blue smoke city.

Yeah it's a very good point you make, something that could easily get forgotten and give you a hell of a bad day. That's a situation i want to avoid. What'd it take? Like 4-5 hours to get into that pump, get it changed and put all back together? I'm thinking about that timing belt and thinking I'll need some help.

It took about 4 hours for me to change all 3 oil pump gaskets. There are 2 that seal the pump the the engine and one that seals the 2 pats of the pump. All 3 should be changed at the same time. Since you have to remove the timing belt to replace the oil pump gaskets, it is a good time to change the timing belt.
