I have a good question when you put the antenna down should it go all the way down to where it is not seen or does it stick up a little bit?
If it is broken then fix it. IF NOT LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE

When the antenna is fully retracted only the black metal tip and the plastic piece underneath(cylindrical type buffer) should be visible. If you can see the actual mast when retracted, the antenna is binding up and not fully retracting.

To answer the other question: Not all Accords came with power antennas. I believe only LX, LX-i, and SE-i had them. DX had an antenna that you could retract and extend by hand.

Not all models have motors. Check down by your brake lever. Is there a switcharoo there? No? Darn. You dont have a power antenna. Just like me.

    Switch

The switch is located in front of the emergency brake.

It shoule look like a small 3 position toggle switch. If you follow the contour of the console it is positioned on the rising part just before the shifter.

    Hope this helps.

At overnightautoparts.com there is an antenna available for only $18.18... I don't think it includes the motor or the speakers like the one in the link posted previously. I believe it is what was used stock for our Accords (at least on my '88).

    Razka:

What you found is non-power antenna which basically just comes with the radio wire. The power antenna also has a plastic line that extends and retracts the antenna. Last time I checked, the power antenna was in the region of 70-90 dollars in price.

    Re: Antenna Removal/Replacement

I hate to bring up old posts but i am a little confused on replacing the antenna itself. My problem is that some low-life decided to steal my cd-player out of my dash. In doing this, they broke the antennae wire completely. My question are as follows:
    1) Is there a separate part of antennae wire that connects to the motor or the antenna mast? or is it one piece from the antenna?
    2) I was trying to get to the antenna motor to see for myself but i cannot seem to "manuever" the fuse block off the posts. Seems as if , i think the sub frame (metal tube), is in the way. How would you go about getting the fuse panel off the post? I could break it but u know i dont think that would be a smart idea
Any help in this matter would be appreciated.... pix too

    Re: Antenna Removal/Replacement

Well found one of my questions out while on the phone with Honda for twenty minutes. I now know that the antenna wire is connected to the antenna mast and I will have to buy a new one. Thankyou Honda for sticking it to me for $120.08. I have not yet ordered it so if anyone can get me one from a j/y or has a website to get one at please let me know. It is the power antenna if I did not make that clear.

    Re: Antenna Removal/Replacement

A lot of the antennas I've seen in junkyards and on the road on these cars always seem to be broken or stuck. As for the fusebox, you'll need to completely disconnect it and then remove it. Its a pain to do, but it does come out without breaking anything. The antenna motor is another major PITA to reach (so plan to spend a few hours at the junkyard). Make sure that when you install the new motor the drain tube goes in the appropriate hole in the body too. If memory serves me right, the antenna wire connects at the base of the antenna (black part on the roof) so you might be able to salvage your antenna if you desolder the old wire and install a new one. I haven't done that, however, so this is speculation. HTH

I have recently aquired a 1989 Accord LX and have already found something that I can't resist messing with. When I got the car, the antenna mast was kinked but not broken right where it exits the housing. I found a proper replacement mast at the local Automotive supply store but I found that I could not remove the old antenna. Once I remove the two screws that secure the top cover of the assembly, I can pull the antenna and it's housing out for about an inch, beyond that it will not move. I have not had a chance yet to get to the antenna motor but will try that soon. Is the antenna secured to the motor and therefore is impossible to remove without messing with the linkage down there under the dash? Can someone explain how and where the antenna is mounted to the body/car/dash? I have searched this board for an explanation and haven't found anything regarding this problem. I have also looked at the shop manual and that only explains motor and switch testing. Any help regarding this problem is apreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe he was about 12 at the time. I was 16 (got the accord when I was 15). BTW, the repaired antenna still works.
