I have a couple of probs with my 3g that occur only when it's really cold outside. First off, my driver's side front suspension squeaks annoyingly loud whenever that wheel is turned or moves up or down. Is it a balljoint at its last days or what? It'll go away completely in warm weather though... Also, my engine idles HIGH (around 1800 to 2000) and sometimes will surge idle until it gets warm. Once again, help!!!

It's supposed to idle up around 2000RPM when cold until it gets hot. That's normal. I don't know exactly how high, but for the first 5 min it's ok if it goes betw 2000-3000. If it's idling high after that, then you have a problem.

My girlfriend's 86 LXI hatchback has a squeek that I think is coming from either the bad shock or spring on the front-left. I checked the ball joints and they're fine.

So bad squeek doesn't necessarily mean bad ball joint, but you should DEFINITELY check the ball joints because they do go bad on these cars!
