    1987 LXI Throttle Body Issue

I am in the middle of fixing up a low mileage 3G and had some questions about the dashpot on my 87 Hatch. I included an image to help with my question. Is the bracket coming off the throttle body suppose to go in between the bracket coming off the dashpot, or does it lie up against it like its shown in the picture? I actioned the throttle, and it just doesnt look like the dashpot serves any function the way its sitting. I was hoping someone could maybe take a picture or just tell me its wrong lol..

    Thanks ahead of time!

Are you having an issue or this just a general question? I can help you diagnose a problem, but my '89 throttle body is different.

A little of both.. It just felt like whenever I came to a stop, and it was more noticeable the harder id get on the brakes to stop.. The RPM would drop down to probably 400-600ish.. Now, if im right, thats the dashpot's job is to basically slowdown the throttle when releasing it..

But I cleaned out the throttle body a little and also the Idle screw and it seems to have gotten a little better.. But I really need someone to chime in that has an 87 lxi automatic, that can confirm or take a picture..

I doubt that pot has much to do with it. I'd be looking for vacuum leaks in the brake booster area. Are you getting a check engine light?

No check engine.. I will check the vacuum near the booster but I doubt its a vacuum issue.. Most of the vacuum is in great shape, ive given it all a good visual, but ill go over it again a little thoroughly..

I'd be looking for problems with the brake booster or check valve.

Your Dashpot looks exactly like mine. Your IACV could be dirty.
