You may want to hold on to it if you'll have to pass again sometime. Maybe grab a different one from the junk and gut that one. I've heard a broomstick works well, but there are emissions here so everyone I know still runs a cat.

just get a peice of exhaust pipe the same size as the inside of the cat. punch it through and then pull it out. use a stick to poke the shit out the pipe then put the pipe back in. it will be like a straight pipe with a cat over it.

Not to be Mr. Treehugger (cuz I totally not) but unless your car has some serious mods, gutting your cat is not worth the time (if its in good working order). Our cats don't restrict our exhaust enough to add any noticable gains when removed and it helps add heat to the exhaust system which is always good (and saves the environment)...Now if you had a turbo (like my talon...say) you would notice some very good gains from removing/gutting your cat.....

why are u askin for step by step? It is easy to gut your cat! Your thinkin its gonna be a 1 hour job.
Step one: Take of your cat
Step Two; Just take i pipe, screwdriver or anything long an just smash the inside to pieces!
Step Three: Dump out all the junk
Step Four smash all the little pieces That are left over so u can get em out
Step Five: Make sure it clean an put it back on.
easier then you think

If you plan to keep the car, you should save the cat and put in a pipe to replace it temporarily. It will be expensive to replace if you have to do it in the future.
Don't know how much difference it would make to a Honda but I took out the cat on my old Chevy Suburban with a 350 and it made quite a difference. Made it peppier and also MUCH LOUDER.

My 1986 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency had no cat after I was done with that stupid exhaust... It rusted off right before the cat.. no way i could have welded it..
That mofo was friggin LOUD!! Damn.. it really did give it a boost too.. (when you stomped on it.. of course it was also a 3.8L V6... great motor)
:sigh:
some days I wish I had that car stilll
thank you honda.. i needed that

I'll have to disagree with DoctorC on this one and tell you to go for it. I got my header and didn't notice much power difference and the car barely got any louder. I took the car to my friend at a machine shop and had him take out the cat and replace it with a straight pipe. Then it was like a whole new car. Do it!!!!!!!!!! Removing the cat made a huge power difference for me.

Well, it depends on the condition of your cat.
Very true anchovies, and I know my cat was atleast 11 years old, could be the stock one for all I know. That's probably why it made such a difference for me.

Jstyle, if you're referring to my old cat, I'd give it to you, but it's not really usable anymore. I'll tell you this much....old catalytic converter, sledgehammer, AR-15, .30-.06, and 2 friends. You can guess the rest.:fight:
