hey guys,
ok, first of all i want to know where did you guys set your amp crossover for the bass. 100hz-150hz. come on i want to see want is the best one.
plus i have a question to the car audio experts on this board.
how much bass overlap can i have between main speakers and sub.
example. right now i have my main speakers set at 100hz- till what ever is high.
and my bass set at 150hz and what ever is low. so this 50hz is concerns me. is it good or bad?

the lower frequencies are what you want for bass... as far as I know... high frequencies are not good for your voice coils on your subs.....

my x-over on my 300w amp is set to 90hz and below. I think down to 50hz (amp capabilities)
*human hearing range (perfect) is from 20hz-20Khz*
And yah if you pump highs through your subs those coils will go!!

every amp will play over and below a set x-over frequency to a certain point , it doesnt just cut off the frequency at the point it is set at

so if i set my subwoofer amp at 100hz it may hit over the 100hz sometimes? that is strange. than why are they putting them at first place.
i may have to sonsider investing into crossover.

because man, it will play over the set frequency but not nearly as loud as it would if the frequency was set different, try it out with a bass test cd, the bass wont automatically cut off at a given frequency, it will more like fade away

i would ask the manufacturer of the crossover and the sub but look at the Hz range is of your sub and other speakers and then choose the best place to cross over. It's all by case depinding on what you have.
if you want to have a cool system try to get some subs to resonate at 14hz
well thats a given, a filter can't be absoulte, but usually they do a good job, i find external x-overs do a better job than my built in oneOriginally posted by n88accordLX-i

p.s. Download some competition tracks, but be careful they will smoke subs if you turn it up!!

oh yeah, i have everything alpine, i don't buy anything else. alpine all the way. well at least for this setup. i may mix it up in my next car.

I just picked a few by searching Bass test on kazaa.... one of them is an actual test from MTX ... its called "bass check-MTX woofer test" I got a bad ass one thats a tweeter test... damn my tweeters sound so clear which leads me to think that I really need a x-over to filter the lows on that shit... the highs sound great....

what size are your sub(s)? you shouldn't be running at 150Hz... i run mine under 100, not sure of the exact number though, and i'm too damn lazy right now to go out and check... 10" running at 250w... on my home system, i have my sub crossover set at 120Hz, it's a little 100w 8" in a ported box... 150Hz is waaaayyyy to high for clean sound if you have 3" or bigger components...

Ok, well, the lower the frequency, the less you are gonna get out of your subs. I have 2 mtx 10's, a orion 600w amp, 1fd lightning bolt cap, and a phoenix gold electronic x-over, all powered by a sony cdx-5490 deck. i have my x-over set to 50hz, it hits hard, but before i had the x-over, it sounded like s**t. either your amp has one on it, or you need to buy one. pimp86LX is right, subs cant really handle the highs, they are made for the lows. idealy, dont set your x-over to over 150hz, it starts to sound distorted from that point on.
as for the bass tracks, try picking up some Techmaster P.E.B. on kazaa, or from morpheus. they are some good tracks. also try lil troy's "wanna be a baller", it is a good track also.

Yeah totally use Bass mekanic, with their test tone cd and set the x- over down to like 70-80 hz and lower your interior speakers to about 80 hz, try it, itll prolly help noticeably.
