I am just wondering what the best engine out there for an 89 honda accord is. This isn't going to be a racing Honda but i do want the extra power.

Welcome to the forum
First off before you get flamed SEARCH!
But to answer your question:
if you own a Carbed Accord, LX, DX then a A20A3 from a 88-89 Accord LX-i or SE-i is what you want.
If you own a EFI Accord then it's pretty much Build the A20, maybe turbo or a B20A (JDM 85-89 Accord/85-87 Prelude, NOT in any USDM Prelude!!!!) or you could go B-Series B16/B18 but that will require custom mounts/axles, etc...
2004-2011?

a20a3! the engine is the heart of the car. i think its a shame when people pop engines into cars that were never offered for that car by the manufacturer. think about it if ur runnin anything but an a20 or b20a then it realy isnt a 3rd gen anymore. not everyone thinks that way but its my 2cent.
even a moded a20 is still slow

b20a b20a b20a b20a.........
new b series motors definately...easy to find...probably havnt been rotting in the junkyard as long..newer seals..new technology...more reliable....complete alloy drive train im pretty sure...more parts interchangability...more information on how to build them for power...plenty of aftermarket parts
in Australia its easy to find a crv b20b for 1500 with everything you need...get the motor in and you can decide whether to go turbo or vtec later...plus it has lots of torque for the heavy ass accord and it weighs heaps less although id like to know how much..
the b20b from the crv etc is the wrong one
will require making mounts, mix and match drive shafts etc to make fit.
the b20a from the jdm ca si accords and i think maybe one of the poolude gold top b20a fits .
dunno if those require much modding to fit
the black top accord b20a is a bolt in
ya dont have to mix drive shafts... use 90-93 teg axles. newer ones would probably work to, just depends on how the motor is positioned in the engine bay...i used both 90-93 axles in my b18a swap with no problems. i even raced the car for 6 months and it held up nicely.
your mounts on the other hand are going to be the tough one. without those you will be limited to only the jdm accord/prelude b18a/b20a engines as they are pretty much bolt ins if you can find a 5spd transmission for them.
there are people on here that didnt spend an arm and a leg to boost there a20 and they are pretty fast... so i would seriously consider that as your option..
junkyard t25 turbo(good for maybe 10psi which is good enough to start)
custom turbo manifold(which is the harder thing to find)
upgrade fuel pump to walbro.
aeromotive fuel pressure regulator
autometer wideband o2
convert to obd-1 and get a p06 ecu with chrome
these will be the basics to get your car boosted.. the wideband is not reguired, but will make tuning easier.
you will want to start @ 5-8psi... go any higher and you will have to upgrade injectors.
Well if it's street A20A3 but if it's going too the track H22 turbo but thats money my friend.

i am a new member and i was wondering can the motor in a 1987 crab Honda accord be upgraded and if so to what can i put in it
yep it can and you can put a better one in it
I think an H would be a bad choice, maybe for drag. I Just got a cherry 1989 lxi Hatch, it is perfect in every way. I still want to tear it apart, but it runs too well. Maybe someday it'll break.
i've 1987 accord A18a carb, what should i put in for more power as for racing and i don't wanna go through mounting or axels thingy..
