I recently acquired my friend's 1988 Honda Accord DX Sedan. He lives in California and a few months ago purchased it off the original owner. I bought it off him and drove it back to Nashville, Tennessee. Outside Albuquerque the alternator quit but the battery held out until Amarillo, there I was able to have the local Honda dealer install a new alternator. Outside Oklahoma City I watched the odometer tick over the 200,000 mark and the rest of the trip went smooth.
Since getting it back to Nashville safely I've had my local tuning shop, Deft Motion install another new alternator, as well as an oil change. The unknown unit from Amarillo started overcharging after about a week. It's driving well now but I'll need to do the timing, coolant flush, fresh axles, and suspension bushings before I can get to the fun stuff like coilovers, wheels, and tires.
Mine is a 5-speed manual with the carbureted A20A1.
