I've been trying to figure out what to do about the radio, the choke control and fuel pressure gauge take up the old radio space, I was going to mount it under the seat and use a remote extender, but ran into problems, i finally mounted the radio BOX under the seat, but this is where i came up with to mount the face on the new dash i'm building.
first I made this nifty aluminum plate out of a chunk of aluminum.......
notice the volume knob, I've been missing the cheap plastic knob for a while, the answer has been staring me right in the face, pulled this knob off of an old VOR radio from an airplane, it's sitting on my mantlepiece. It already had the set screws in it and everything, nice black aluminum knob. All I had to do was redrill the center hole to a larger size. I always thought this clarion looked like an aircraft panel radio anyway, and the knob adds to the illusion. Since I have aircraft stuff all in the car it blends in perfectly. the face will be connected to the radio box with a multi wire cable. the dash will be black, so i painted the aluminum surround for the radio face ultra flat black, and I also changed the aluminum piece that holds my gauges to ultra flat black. All aircraft instrument surrounds are that color.
