    The Pricey 86 Accord LXi hatch

    I found this on eBay..

    Despite the mileage, I would not shell out that much money considering the unknown reason why parts were repainted and it sitting extensive times throughout 32 years. $6,000 would be more reasonable in my opinion. The belts should be replaced anyway due to dry rot and the hoses etc will need attention. Rubber ages whether or not used.

    Man thats a beauty. Ill probably talk my self into one of these some day.

    Pictures of the side that got painted would have been a nice touch on this Ebay ad.

    Amazing but def overpriced. I saw a 32k mile 84 Prelude going for 5k.

    Nobody wanted it at the original price and now its $9,900. I'm pretty sure they will drop the price again.

    Wow, what an excellent example of how awesome these cars are. I might be willing to buy that if it went down to $5000 or less and wasn't so far from me.

    It is truly a time capsule. The dash and all switch gear appear brand new, seats are like new. Wheel covers don't have a scratch on them. Floor mats appear new. Needs the timing belt/water pump service, the window tint removed, and a set of SEi wheels to finish it off. Good winter project while in storage.

    Definitely do a timing belt/water pump service before anything else. If timing belt breaks chances are your engine will be done. What makes you want to remove the window tint? It looks so good paired with the color of the car and for the most part it will be a summer cruiser. Is it illegal up there to have tinted windows? Because over here you can have tinted windows except for the front windshield, and the driver and passenger windows.

    Law enforcement can get a little touchy about tint up here. Plus I try to keep all the vehicles as stock as possible. No rush though on that one.

    Whatever works for you! I like the original "tint" windows on these old Hondas. Like if you pay close attention, you notice there is like a shade of purple in the glass both on my gray 83 Hatch and my white 86 hatch. Although I kind of wish my gray hatch would have a bit more tint, but I'm kind of like you as well in preferring them to be as stock as possible. I'm not a huge fan of modded ones unless the mods are done right. I hate when they would buy a stock Accord with a good running engine then throw in mods that they don't know what they're doing and sell the car. Nobody will want it then. And keeping them stock I think helps retain their value better.

    Absolutely!
    My favorite is the gold-colored factory tint on higher-end Accords/Legends.

    I can't do stock. I plan on enjoying it all I can. But removing tint from defroster lines isn't generally a good idea.

    I think the dude said he paid nowhere near the 12k. It was 12k then nobody wanted it so then it was like 9,900. I think I mentioned it on here.

    Actually if you click on the link at the start of my thread, the pictures are still there. Just click View Relisted Item and kind of start scrolling thru the pics, they are there.

    Correct-price was dropped to $8500 and I paid much less than that.

    My '09 Silverado has the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It's federally mandated now, so every new car has it, like air bags (explosives aimed at your face; great idea). A few months after I bought the truck, the TPMS put a light on my dash and an annoying alert on the driver's screen that pre-empts my odometer until I press a button, *every* *time* *I* *turn* *on* *the* *truck*. I asked America's Tire to fix it when I had new tires put on. They said it checked out fine, so of course the light came on again a couple weeks later. I could take it down to the dealer and pay a king's ransom to have it fixed, or I could turn it off. I mean, in the olden days before the world went insane, we had a TPMS system that actually worked. It was called a tire gauge. You bought one for $5 and it always worked and no one died. So I'll turn the TPMS off, right? Only, I can't turn it off. There's no provision for that. In fact, it's embedded so deeply in the circuitry of the truck, anything I do to it will leave me with a light and a nagging message. Which I already have without doing anything at all. You see, the TPMS is so goddammed important that it must not be disabled, but NOT important enough to actually fucking work.

    The whole operation of the system is insane. If the pressure of the tires varies more than a small amount from what the system deems appropriate, you get the alert and the nagging. If you put a separate set of snow tires on, you get the nagging. If (when) the system goes haywire, you get the nagging. If you air up because you're hauling a heavy load, you get the nagging. If you air down to go off-roading, you get the nagging. If you get a blowout and damage the sensor, you get the nagging. If you opt for a set of wheels you find on Craigslist, you get the nagging. Basically, if you are the least bit normal, you get the nagging. The sole function of this system, apparently, is to keep a light permanently lit on my dash and an annoying warning permanently on my driver's screen. And this is but one of the many great joys of owning a new car.

    Is $12k worth it for a 30 year old car? You better believe it.

    The '13 Focus I had, BOTH window motors went out in less than a year... BOTH... HOW?!
    The rear alignment was so fucked, it chewed the rear tires. Took it in twice to the dealership to have it fixed, each time "it's within spec"
    Had to put a new set of tires on it, told the shop I got em from to fix the alignment, they did and I never had a problem after that...
    When that car went away, it only had 32k miles on it so it's not like I drove it an insane amount.

    A trick with the tire pressure sensors was to build a short pvc pipe, toss the sensors in it, cap the ends and put a stem valve in so you can pressurize the pipe. Then store it in the trunk. But I don't know if that will still work on newer cars.

    I thought about that, but I don't think it will work when your system is malfunctioning, like mine seems to be. Or at least that's the nagging I keep having to read.
