Unless someone swapped a diesel engine into your car while you weren't looking, it means your car is running rich. 99% of the time it's caused by fouled old plugs, I'd start by changing them.

well, my dad told me that if it is a black smoke your hole engine needs to be rebuild.
His piston rings shot.
he gets oil from the botom of oil pan.
tell him to go to junk yard and get used engine or get a new car.

woah....it could just be plugs
whoever said it is right, its running rich, check plugs....if thats no good check compression oil may be gettting in via poor valve or piston ring....
That's what I thought..I was gonna suggest an oil change with filters and all or a tune up!!

Check everything like mentioned above. Oil change and filter won't have much to do with black smoke. It'll be more along the lines of plugs, PCV valve, maybe cap and rotor, etc. And you may want to look into adjusting the valves. Sometimes, if they are really badly in need of adjusting, the valves open and close funny or don't seal properly causing black smoke.

if after your oil change and tune up yoru still finding black smoke
heres a little trick i learned after blowin a ring in my S-coupe
1. Find cylinder with low compression
2. take plug out and add a little drop of oil into the cylinder
3. Check compression again
if its getting compression now, the oil sealed around the valve. And the oil will burn out after a while...
if its still not getting compression its most likey a piston ring...now the ring COULD just be stuck..try some tune-up in a can. it might free it up. if not its probably cracked..soo you'll have to crack your wallet as well
my .02
i have blown up alot of honda engines (opps should say that ) and it always pisses out BLUE smoke before it goes (blue equals rings) black could be a head gasket as well (blown between combustion chamber and oil gallery)
oil will burn in a bluish tint, black smoke is probably a stuck fuel pressure regulator (check to see if the vacuum hose going to it is still intact) causing a very rich mixture

Radiator fluid burns white! (That stuff called antifreeze).
Black = fuel
Blue = Oil
Red = Change your tampon.
