Is This Gap Supposed To Be There?

Before dousing my car with half a can of some really old kerosene and torching it, I was poking around and discovered this (see photo) . . . is the gap between the drive shaft boot and the transmission housing "normal"?

    If not, how am I supposed to fix it . . . er . . . uh . . assuming I'll postpone burning the sacrificial Honda, of course . . .

    Thanks,

    IPF

Hmm I don't think mine was ever flush... I know it's not now, ever since I put in the new motor.
