88 4dr with brand new tint

    Sup 3geezers?

I've been lurking the forums for a few weeks, but now that I just got a great new tint job I just gotta post some pics

    More pics
    back | front

I got the tint from Auto Mall Tint Specialist in fremont and they were awesome. The owner was really helpful and the installation looks super professional. I wasn't sure exactly what percent to get and i think his recommendations were spot on. Behind the driver I got Suntek HP 30% on the side doors and 15% on the back. On the front side doors i got 70% V-Kool film which is the most efficient heat blocking film available. at 70% it blocks more heat than most 30% films It's also the most expensive film out there but so far i think it's worth it.. though 70% is technically not legal (film + window must be 70% or less) , it's barely noticeable and it does stop tons of heat even when the sun is shining right on you

I've never driven car with tint and I have to say I really like it. it seems like it's easier to focus on the road ahead because there's less visual distraction from whats going on behind you. tonight i had a truck pull up behind me and i would have been blind if i didnt have the tint hehe

    more info on the car

yay for another bay area owner. Looks good, and no tint in front is legal actually. Just a headups but I'm sure most cops aren't too big of a dick but then again you are in fremont area..

yeah i'm not too worried about cops because i see tons of people with way darker tint on the fronts than mine. The glass that comes on 3gs is a lot lighter than newer models, so i doubt a cop will even notice i have tint on unless he's nitpicking my car.

technically some film is legal. in 1999 they changed the law. Vehicle code seciton 26708

    (d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:

    (1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.

    (2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
theres a few more requirements but those are the % reqs

thanks for the info, I didn't know they changed the law to 70%. I personally wouldn't even get tint in the front because it wouldn't make too much of a difference in appearance. At least the back is almost anything goes.

yeah if the tint was only for looks I wouldn't have gotten it.. but i wanted it more to protect the interior and to keep me cool. The interior is in really good shape so i dont want it to fade out or cracked, and driving in the summer sucks when the sun is shining right on you. there's no point keeping the back seat cool when i'm up front hehe.

i had the fronts tinted 20%... i'm sort of paranoid because my exhaust is louder than stock, my tails aren't stock, i'm a lowered car with rims, and now i'm tinted all the way around...

looks really good on yours, and it sounds like your tint job is practical AND stylish. i don't have the maximum heat blocking, but it's definitely shaded when in the sun.

here's a couple shots of the interior

The interior has held up just as well as the exterior.. there's only a small rip in the vinyl on the door and also the driver's floormat has a spot that is worn thru a layer, but thats pretty much it for interior damage i need to detail it and get rid of the dust and junk that it's in the cracks, but with just a simple vacuum it looks really nice imo

    Ha,

Someone else with the BROWN interior. It's impossible to find BROWN floormats that match the interior. No one makes brown floormats, and my local dealer(s) don't have them/can't get them.

Looks good, take good care of those floormats.

    Peace.

yeah it looks pretty new im stoked cept i took it too the carwash this weekend and i dunno if i didnt notice it before or what but i noticed all these mini scratches and also it seems like the wax is all dull where it was nice and shiny before. i took it there before and they did a nice job (as seen in the pix) but now it looks worse.

the interior is burguny or maroon, not brown. and yeah the back seat is the fold down kind with the armrest, but you cant have it

damn i can't say enough good things about the tint place i went to.. they accidentally damaged a rear speaker during the tint installation, but they promised to get me a replacement.

well anyways after a week or two of waiting I go back and he ends up giving me a pair of speakers out of his own car... thats pretty dope customer service imo. it's like a got a free speaker upgrade with a tint job and the speakers came from a much newer honda so i still have honda stock parts, though they're in way better shape and are two way coaxial as opposed to the one ways they replaced

also, i was playing around with photoshop.. i kinda think the dash would look good black on top with the maroon on bottom, what do you think? here's the original for comparison

yeah, that color combination looks real nice. if you can get your hands on the parts, you should do it. and paint it to match.

hands on what parts? if i did it, i'd probably just paint the existing dash, though it seems like it'd be a big pain in the ass to pull the dash just to paint it
