    frantik's custom cai install

Ok well my custom cai thread got merged with a how-to and now I can't edit it or add more pics so here's the pics of the installation

We (picopop, messy and I) pulled the bumper to make it easier to do everything that black box is a resonator for the stock instake and needs to be removed

Here's picopop widening out the intake hole.. it only needed to be opened up a little bit, mostly toward the front.

getting all the pieces hooked together..

Filter goes where that black box was

It's a tight fit near the battery, and the battery tray needed to be trimmed just a tiny bit, but the plastic liner didn't

    All done!

If you have someone else to give you a hand, it's not really that hard to take off the bumper. It takes a little while to do everything though.

You have to remove the signal lights and then undo the two bolts on either side which are holding the bumper to the frame. Then you just slide it back. There's a little slot on either side near the fenders which holds the sides of the bumper to the car.

You'll need a screwdriver and a socket wrench but thats it

no, you have to take off your bumper. that can be done by unscrewing all the screws that hold it to the bumper itself. there's some on the top of it, some on the front behind the grille area, and some underneath. i don't remember where all of them are. and when you do it, try not to break the piece that connect that bumper to the wheel well lining. because that gets annoying after awhile.

and frantik, i hope you plan to put some type of by-pass valve on that. i know how bay area winter storms can be. otherwise, looks good. almost inspiring enough for me to go put on my 2g teg intake.

huh? isnt there only like 2 screws on each side holding it to the inner fender and 4 bolts behind the bumper lights? thats all it took to get mine off

yeah, only those screws are actually holding the tab that the bumper just slides over. theres' only four bolts behind the signal lights that have to be undone

(you can actually see the tab i'm talking about it's the black circular thing at the top left of the picture with the filter)

you dont have to take off the bumper. just pull the fender lining thing, and work from there. 25x easier.

it's a trade off.. you can pull the lining back but you have to work in a confined space, or you can take more time and pull the bumper and have plenty of space to work. I'd say if you have the time and space and an spare set of hands, pull the bumper.

    Re: frantik's custom cai install

yeah I noticed a lot of improvements first of all i got my low end torque back which went missing after I installed my short ram. There's also a lot more top end torque and I noticed yesterday when getting on the freeway that I could accelerate a lot more without the rpms climbing very quickly. in addition it seems throttle response is better (prolly due to low end torque being restored)

I have mine all set to go in, but it's so cold here in Ct in the winter and with a carb, i NEED that damn hot air riser. I'm waiting for spring to install mine. i'm working on polishing the lid to my Civic airbox in the meantime.
