depends how much it would cost to rebuild... no gaurantee a lower milage engine will be better... I mean you can buy an abused low milage motor and end up worse off.
You could try and get a spare motor, rebuild that and then swap it in when you're done, that way you don't have down time.

that is the best option that you can possibly think of!

i would say rebuild....i put one of thoes 40k miles into my car and the headgasket blew....put my car out of work for 4 weeks b4 i had the money to fix it.....plus your engine does not have alot of miles...you can get it ported and polished with a colt or delta cam on it.....i would first do a compresion test to fine out the condition that is on.

they did a compression test on it about a month ago and they said it was running fine at good compression...not sure exactly what it was but it was good.

well just to get you some figures. Around 6-7 years ago I paid about 900 for complete rebuild of the bottom end with me supplying pistons, rings, rods, oil pump, seals. the only thing the shop got for me was the bearings. they bored out the block 30 over shotpeened, balanced and Miked( sp) all the rotating assembly. For a good head rebuild figure at least 500 for stock rebuild including valves guides and seals. at least arouudn 1000 for a half decent head job with complete rebuild and maybe a reground cam.
Very minimum for a completely stock rebuild of the whole engine will be around 1300-1500 depending how much you can do yourself and what not. with performance goodies add about 4-500 for pistons aroun 650-700 for rods balancing and shotpeening is extra probably about 150 more and for the head with upgraded valvetrain, cam, port etc will be around a grand plus. depending on shops and what parts are available. So the performance rebuild will probably run you about 3000 give or take depending on shops parts etc.
This was prices on machining a couple of years back so prices might have gone up since then.
