    Cone filter?

I'm sure this has been asked, but I cannot find any simple answer to this by searching. I have a cone filter that's been in my closet for a while, well I cleaned and oiled it up...and then discovered that the Accord's intake tubing is square. What's the deal with that? I'm used to just being able to put the filter where the airbox used to be.

How have you guys overcome this problem? Any suggestions welcome.

    Re: Cone filter?

does your filter drop in or clamp on the end of a pipe...

you can always remove the stock air box and reuse some of the plastic tube directly off the Throttle body, then clamp the filter to the end of the tube.

if it's the drop in round filter then you're out of luck.

the quick and dirt would be to pull all of the intake tubing off and mount the filter directly on the t/b... or go to autozone and buy the civic/integ short ram pipe and hack like 4 inches off the long end.

What about the MAF sensor though? Oddly enough I haven't noticed one on this car yet...but then again I've never seen a fuel injected car without a MAF. Of course the only Honda I've ever had before was an 84 Prelude with dual sidedraft carbs, lol.

    Re: Cone filter?

Ok I pieced together a quick short ram out of some stuff I had laying around. I'm glad I did too, the current air filter was shot. It was actually comming apart.

Everything installed fine, but I have a few hoses that went to the intake that I need to know what to do with. Also I noticed that after cranking up my car it smelled as if it was running rich. Could this be from the hoses that are now just big vacuum leaks?

Atleast plug them all, then find out what they do. The 2nd one looks like a solenoid which probably only opens on some circumstances. Someone else can help the rest out

    Re: Cone filter?

That thing mounted on the suspension tower is gay and can be thrown away to save weight. unless your an air conditioning fan then it will componsate for lost revs when the compressor is turned on. as for the smaller ones could they of been from bleed valves?
More importantly how does it run?
Really though, a length of dryer hose and a sock is proberbly more effient that expensive cone filters, less bends and 100% cold air, unless you want fashion over function. Fair enough like.

A lot of people i know (who seem to know there stuff seem to be sticking to panel filters, anyone know why??)
