Thumbs up Yellow Headlights (GE Gold, Phillips Weathervision)

Well I was tired of the trendy Ultrawhite blueish headlights that you can't see shit with.

I went deep in the Northen Quebec region and had a hard time driving there due to the poor lightning conditions of my Civic headlights. Even if those Ultrawhite bulbs I had were 90/100, I almost had to stay on the high beams to see something.

I just bought 2 pairs of headlights. some GE Gold (not DOT approved) and Phillips Weathervision (DOT approved).

All I can say is WOW!!!. The GE bulb gives a nice gold color that will enhance contrasts and make poor weather vision easier on the eye. The're rated at 2600K. The Phillips are rated at 2800K and also give this nice gold light. They're a bit whiter but not that much. I bought the Phillips just in case the cops don't like the GE ones. The GE lights are 100% legal in Europe but not here. I bought those bulbs from this website and received them in 1 week. Shipping is free and I didn't have to pay any custom fees. This is as cheap as buying them in a store but you don't have to search everywhere for them.

    http://www.autolamps-online.com/index.htm

Anyway, I'll post pictures of both lights soon.

Forget about those blue lights, they're worth crap. Why?

    * An incandescent lamp emits a light of all colours, that’s called "continuous spectrum".
    * The human eye is especially sensitive to the yellow light (wave length around 550 nm)
    * That means a source emitting 10 Watts of yellow light will seem brighter than 10 Watts of blue light, since the eye is a lot more sensitive in the yellow region than in the blue.

Ever noticed that yellow glasses will enhance contrasts?

Go to that site and check all the headlights. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. There's something for everyone

P.S. I really want to try the Rally lights hehe.

Re: Yellow Headlights (GE Gold, Phillips Weathervision)

The Phillips are $22.40 a pair (including shipping) and the GE are $16.80 a pair.

I think the Phillips can be bought at Wal-Mart. At least, there are Phillips Weather Vision in the Wal-Marts near Montreal but none carried 9004/H4 bulbs. They had all the other types tough

This is why I just bought a pair of Phillips as a backup. I'm sure they're street legal and will give an improvement close to the GE bulbs.

i saw these at a local store here in cali...superautobacs.

but they were selling at 42 bucks a pair. unfortunatly they did not have a display like they did for the rest of the bulbs. so i didnt think much of it. i might just buy a pair once i get the conversion.

nice review carot. i've been considering it for a while too, i'm running 90watt h4 super whites and they are simply junk in the rain - might as well be turned off.

The problem with HID is that you lose the high beams Unless they now got a kit that will include both?

I have high beams still. You just have to get the more expensive kit.

I called the local parts store here (Lordco) I didn't get part numbers... but he was saying I could convert over to HID with good Xenon bulbs for about $200 before tax.

My question is does that sound right?

I've heard the HID swaps can be almost a grand at times...

Well, not really. They are just sooooooo bright it doesn't matter if it's raining or not. I have my fog lights that I will use too, and I have no problems seeing. I live in Washington too guys, so we get a little rain.
Oh, spnrx.......HID is alot more expensive. BUT 100% better.

h4 bulbs fit into the factory bulb socket, i've had my h4 silverstars in for 3mos now, no problem. except i cant see in the rain, but only when its night. cause i turn em on when its raining during the day, but i only find it hard to see when it is night. and when it is raining.

Re: Yellow Headlights (GE Gold, Phillips Weathervision)

I just got a set of Sylvania silverstars this weekend. They have the silverstars in the standard sealed-beam type light so you dont have to convert to the H4 housings. So far, they are incredibly brighter than the regular hologen bulbs. Since they're not H4's they're not quite as bright, but instead of having to pay $40 for the H4 conversion housings and $50 for the Silverstar H4's, i just got the replacement bulbs. It saved me 40 bucks.

I didnt know they made silverstar's in the standard bulb format. I thought they were limited to the H bulb style.

Re: Yellow Headlights (GE Gold, Phillips Weathervision)

silver star's are also made in other bulbs. 1156 and 1157 like in tail lights or blinkers. i had a set of silver stars but was greatly unimpressed and returned them. they were H4's for my conversion housings. i just didnt like the fact that they were dimmer on the road itself than my cheap bulbs i bought at wal-mart. HID>filament bulbs. and i'm sure someone can back that up.

I got pictures but I'll have to take new ones. You can't really see that they're yellower than regular lights.

I'll compare side to side with a regular bulb.
