    Anyone ever used syncromesh??

Hey has anyone used penzoil syncromesh??? I heard it works real good for helping bad syncros in hondas? But how much shoud i use? 1 quart with the rest regular oil? Or should i fill the whole thing with it or what??

Right now i have full synthetic 10w30 with about a 1/2 quart of lucas transmission fix.

Im going to try this im my transmission for now until i can rebuild it.

If you're planning on rebuilding the tranny soon anyways I guess it wouldn't hurt. I'm not sure about the popularity of it in Honda's, but it's huge in the DSM world. I had a bad grind going into 3rd at high RPM's and was starting to get a grind everytime I downshifted into 2nd with my Talon. I replaced the fluid with Synchromesh at school and I haven't had a gear grind from anything other than fault of my own since then. I used just the Synchromesh.

It shouldn't matter what kind of manual transmission it is they all work the same, gears are gears, they have brass syncros just like most other manuals.

DSM world is famous for synchromesh but it also works in other cars. Couldn't hurt to try.

It's an additive, right? Then dont fill it up with it, only use the one bottle or whatever it says on the bottle. Do you guys in the US have the additives produced by a company called "Abcon"? Their additives are top notch quality. (and made in Denmark too )

no its not a additive its just transmission fluid.

Im probbaly going to put 1 quart of that syncromesh and the rest is going to be some synthetic 10w30 and lucas oil additive or lucas transmission fix. And ill let you guys know how that works out.

Any experienced Honda mechanic will tell you just plain old 10W-40 Moto oil is fine. Heavy gear oil will not work in Honda trannys the tolerances are too tight and will burn out quickly.

You shouldn't use lucas oil additive with synthetics. Google for more info, but it causes them the oils to 'foam'.

adam dont ever use full synthetic oil in gearboxes, its too slick and doesnt stick to the gears like dino oil does. If you wanna cure your syncro grind use straight GM syncromesh FRICTION MODIFIED (not the penzoil stuff, this stuff is only available at gm dealerships) part number 12377916

Bob the oil guy would disagree with you. Synthetics are the best thing since sliced bread.

Still there buddy? It's cool that you asked that, That's how you learn. Right now we're dicussing additives to put in manual trannies because normally you'd just put in engine oil.
Since auto trannies use specially designed fluid, there's no additives, because the standard stuff is already designed to do what it does.
And, as we've learned from this thread, it's fairly pointless to add stuff to the oil in manuals anyway. That help?
    By the way

    Re: Anyone ever used syncromesh??

They do make auto tranny fluid stabilizers. goto a local auto shop, they might have some.
The way ti works is it softens the bands and such in the tranny so it dosnt shift as hard. iunno how good that is for it, but it works.

    Re: Anyone ever used syncromesh??

i am fully against syncromesh! heres my reasoning....i started with one transmission. put syncromesh in it, the pinion shaft went out in it, i just thought it was bad driving. trans #2 put syncromesh in, input shaft bearings went out, trans #3 same thing, so now im on to thinkin its syncromesh, im on my 4th trans now, ive had it more than four months now.....the others didnt last a month. so im fully against the syncromesh
