what is the normal idle speed our cars should be at when stopped...for example at a red light?

arround 8-900rps is good other than that check your under hood sticker for exact #s
my car is stock it just likes sittn lower to the ground than most cars:
Lowes 3" CAI W/filter, hackd off mufflar, MSD Blaster 2 coil and bosch Platinum spark plugs&wires...she roars all the way to 6K
this may be only on my car, but it seems to run freaking perfect around 1100. when run between 8-900 it idles like crap. mostly like it wants to die. then again my needle jumps up and down so it might mean that the tach is fuxored
yeah cause it seems too run fine when the engine is cold it idles around 1200 then goes down to 1000...but when it warms up it goes to like 900 and idles like crap...lots of shuttering. will setting it to at least 1100 affect the engine?
i unno man! lol i have the same prob as you then. im just too scared to read through all the damn idle threads on this board. i bet you they take up 20% up of all the threads ever created. and probably 40& of the other ones are all "i want to swap an h22 thread" lol whatever is left over is the usefull stuff![]()
Factory spec for this car is 750 RPM. With older motor mounts you might be happier and have less vibration at 900 or so, but I find with mine that no matter how much I mess with the idle screw it just seems to "self adjust" back to 750.
Yeah, I have the same idle issue.....after the car warms up, it idles like crud at stop lights unless I put it in neutral. It'll act like it's going to die, then the idle controller compenstates and ramps up the rpms (gotta keep a firm brake foot). Sometimes it will just die. It's gotta be some kind of vacuum leak or fuel delivery issue. I've got a carb rebuild kit coming, and will be getting all the vacuum lines and metal junctions replaced soon....gotta put in the new rear fuel filter I bought a couple of weeks ago....I'll repost in here if any of those operations clean up my idle.
well, just swapped out my rear fuel filter. The old one was really full of junk....drove it around the block and then pulled into my driveway. At stops around the block, the idle surge/dropoff continued, but when I pulled into the driveway it seemed to level out some. I think perhaps it just took a little while to get the gunk out of the fuel lines between the rear filter and the front one. Hell, there's probably still crap in there. Probably impossible to get rid of all of it without replacing the fuel lines, but I will keep you guys posted.
I can understand why some guys replace the rear filter with a straight line....it's not really hard to get to, but it is kind of a pain....
