stand alone EFI up and running.

well, i think i have one of the simplest efi setups.

    right click and save as:

    http://kelownaimports.com/video/xvid_pgm-fi.avi

    car running with:

3 wire alternator as opposed to 4(not ment for efi, but i still got it running).
iac, tps, some other sensor at the back of the manifold(i think its the map sensor).
    distributor tdc, angle sensor.

    no blackbox
no o2(will connect when fully installed)
no atmosphere(will connect when fully installed, need to extract from black box)

wire section for ecu <-> intake manifold, distributor.

    thats it.

sorry for the low quality video, is all my kodak will do.

the wires you see on the bumper into the engine bay are the only ones i used. so in reality, its not that many.

Wow, good job man. Do you plan on getting the black box and whatnot? Also, are you going to have to worry about this thing passing smog?

I might look to you for help if i decide to go efi later... It doesnt seem all that hard now, lol.
Alas, no more 3gee. She was a wonderful car and will be missed..

Re: stand alone EFI up and running.

nope, no smog, altho i'm sure the efi setup i have will run alot cleaner than the carb, as far as the back box, the only thing i need from it is the atmosphere sensor, other than that, i'm not putting it in, nor do i have plans to.

from my understanding its basically there for shit like the egr, cruise, a/c and the secondary butterfly's on the intake which i'm not gonna bother with since i'm converting that to electronic.

Ah, crazy. Maybe you can fill me in on what parts i need to grab from the junkyard to do this?

Though when i do it i want to convert *everything*.. I want to grab the pistons and all. Haha. I want all the power i can get.

    so far i have used:
complete intake(injectors w/rail, tps, map sensor, aic)
    efi dizzy
some of the efi wiring from the ecu to the intake/dizzy
    1-2 relays.....
thats about it on my list so far, i plan on using my fuel tank and if it wont let me. i will make it work.

i will know more about the actuall parts required tomorow as i'm finishing this then, than what was previously siad on this board about converting to efi.

also i dont know how long it would have normally take to turn an a20 into a efi one, i'm guessing around a week, i figure in a bout a days worth, i have this whole thing done start to finish.

basically just turning my car into a lx-i model is just to much work, so i did it this way, turns out to be a hell of alot easier.

to swap pistons?? i dont think your gonna see that much more power, it what, only brings the cr up to 9.3:1 as oposed to 9.1:1 which i dont even think im at anyway and i'm still expecting signifigant gain out of this.

this was the quickest way i could think of to get more power out of my car in 1 day and not have to tear the engine apart.

Yeah, most definitely. It's an idea that i'd possibly like to try, but at the same time i wouldnt be satisfied without having more power, lol.

I thought the Atmospheric pressure sensor was somewhere under the dash inside the cabin? I'm gonna be doing something very similar to this soon, for PGM-FI A20 in an 82 hatch. I'm gonna keep the original harness intact except for engine management, which will be completely seperate, with only enough stuff to run properly code-free.

Re: stand alone EFI up and running.

that i havent decided yet, i'm either gonna leave it connected but with no vavuum line, or just disconnect it all together(its no longer connected to my headers anyway), i will know more today as all thats is left is wiring, everything else is installed.

dont know if this is a smart thing, but i'm also using my fuel tank for the carb, there were some fitment issues. but i got it in there, seems to be running alright. i do eventually want to swap to a efi tank tho, as i dont know if i'm gonna run out of gas @ quarter or what. i compared both pump units, the efi pump itself is much bigger in length than the plastic carb one, but i managed to make it fit.

so ya i spent so far about 11-12 hours total on this project, ofcourse half those hours easy were gettin the dashboard out(F#*2ing, Bul$*#@&)and back in, after having a small kiniption fit, i was good to go.

unfortunatly i have to work almost a fullshift today so its gonna be interesting if i can have all the wiring finished and running before 5:30pm in time for autox.

hi sorry about the confusion, you are right its not in the black box, its under the dash on the passenger side pretty much behind the glove box, the schematic i was looking at was for the wrong car, its the 88-89 civic that has it in the black box.
