    frantik's suspension progress thread

So i *finally* ordered the last component to complete my drop setup.. Tokico rears should be here in a week or two

I'm going to be using one of the last known pairs of unused Koni reds up front, matched with Tokico blues in the back, and lowered on Eibach Sportline springs. I hope to get everything installed by mid september, though my normal mechanic doesn't install customer parts so i need to figure out something else.

Once I do get the new shocks and springs installed, my next priority will be installing the complete set of Justin's bars which have already been ordered as well. I'll probably do the upper tower bars almost as soon as I get them, though the lower ones look like they might require a garage to install properly so they might have to wait a tiny bit.

Eventually i'd like to add ST sway bars, but they will probably have to wait a few months. I'll also have to see how the car performs with the mods i've already got in the works haha.

    Drop price breakdown

Koni Red fronts (new - from 3geez member) - $300
    Tokico Blue rears (new - from cardomain.com ) - $115
Eibach Sportlines (new - from ebay) - $75
    ---------
Total: $490 - not too bad for all new parts including a pair of konis

pic of konis (when i was gonna sell them on ebay)

    and sportlines

i'll update this thread with developments as they occur

    Re: frantik's suspension progress thread

yeah sway bars are epensive.. i'm not sure if it's worth it either.., i have to see how it drives after I get all the stuff i've already bought installed

I'd like to get rear discs but finding them locally ready to be installed isn't so easy, and shipping would be a killer if there was a set someplace else

Sway bars are def. worth it. Just pick up a vigor rear bar (which is bigger than the ST bar, I'm pretty sure), and you'll be doing great. Car should be more neutral and, subsequently, turn better.

+1. I ended up throwing a stock LXi bar on my LX, and wow. Major major difference. I will eventually be going a full swaybar setup, however.

that depends on several things... rusted/siezed bolts, ball joints popping loose, de-compressing and re-compressing the spring/strut assembly.

It took me and a bud 2 hours to do the front on mine, but it had civic struts in it that were too long and we ended up having to remove the upper control arm and stuff to get it out, plus we werent out to hurry, we had all night to get it done. The next morning we started on the rear... what a nightmare, that lower strut fork bushing was ripped, on both sides.... ended up having to sawzall it out, a little bit at a time... so overall it took 2 hours to do the front, and 3.5 days to do the rear... it sucked.

well i'm gonna get them eventually.. i just mean i don't know if their price reflects their value. but sometimes when it comes to your 3gee price is just a number (despite what your wallet might say sometimes )

Yep, those Konis were the last pair I got from a store in France. Sold them because after taking the look at the rust on my old 3G, it just wasn't worth it. Good thing, because it got rear ended and totaled this past spring. Let us know how you like the setup when you get it done, and take some pics.
