    Silly noob. :D

Hey there, everyone. My name's Sean, and I'm the somewhat proud owner of a 1989 Accord LXi. The power moonroof is just radical, it's so space age and... yeah. Here she is.

The first things I'm looking to do are to restore the stock appearance of the moulding and weather stripping, but I have NOT been able to track these parts down. Also, the previous owner ah... well, he decided to have some escapades in the back seat shall we say, and due to the smell it lets during the rainy season, I'd like to replace that as well. Lastly we come down to the removal of a few irritating stickers the previous owner apparently found charming.

Once this is done, I'm hoping to turn my motor, which I believe is an A20A3, into a 300hp daily driver. I literally have no idea where to begin, but I know for the most part what major parts do what, so you won't need to treat me like a brain-dead sloth. I'm completely open for discussion on any of these issues, and hopefully look forward to talking with more from my 3rd gen brethren

Haha, you say that now! Thanks though, of course! ;D Actually, it's very clean. The dash panel doesn't even have dust behind it, and the plastic is without scratches! There's a few minor splotches on the carpet in the interior, but they're not so bad, and will probably come out. I'll be replacing the floor mats, anyway. Is that yours there in your sig?

This is my only interior shot. When I pick the car back up from the shop this weekend, I'll take some more. The glove box rattles a bit, that's why it's open. The stereo is being replaced, the original was P.O.S., lol.

    Re: Silly noob. :D

Thanks, yeah lol I'm not putting in an H22. My father had a 94 Civic DX he put an H22 in-- that was some funny stuff. People would rull up to this completely stock-looking Civic, and they didn't notice the flat black 3-inch straight pipe. :P White, lip kit only, tinted windows and an OEM spoiler-- so subtle they never see it coming! That's the kind of car I want.

As far as 300hp goes, that's correct... I'm thinking of going turbo, but I'd still like it to be my daily driver, and thinking a smallish turbo at around 8-10 psi would do it. And, no, I'm 99% sure it's a 1989 even though I don't have the paper in front of me at the moment. The previous owner did some things with it, as they had trashed some exterior parts in a minor accident. Maybe they decided to pull a Sil-eighty and replace the bumper with another one they liked?

Right now, it's bone stock except for the idiotic cat-back exhaust with a resonator that the last owner installed. Lol, it's so damn loud... I work the accelerator so gently so people won't think I'm an ass. :P

Lol, you guys have this down to a science! I don't know. The car's been in the shop, I just found this site and was like sweet! My friend's got a 240SX and he always wahwahs about this site he's got for his, so now I have a forum for mine. He's getting an RB25DET for his, so I figure we'll be side by side if I get some things done with my girl. When I pick it up later today, I'll bring back more pics and info.

for 300 HP you will have to do turbo....i think the highest NA build was 205 or something like that....and it was by no means a daily driver

Haha, 205. Okay so I went down to pick it up, and it was sitting in the lot--disabled. I didn't take my camera, so I couldn't take any pictures. Guess I'll have to head down on Wednesday and pick it up when the guy is actually there. It's a bad part of town, so I can see why he disabled it (no stealy thxpls).

Also, I checked the VIN# on my registration papers. It's a K-- 1989. By the way, how would one go about changing it to a 5spd? Wouldn't I need to replace like 2000$ worth of parts? lol

Hm, I dunno about that then. I don't think $2000 worth of junk is going in my car.

    Re: Silly noob. :D

I did my swap fir a little under $500, and that was with a brand new axel, clutch, flywheel and clutch cable. If you do all junkyard parts i dont see why it cant be dont for $350. I had an automatic in my car but it couldnt handle the power of the mods i did, so i doubt it will hold 300. You will have to do a 5-speed swap with like a stage 2 clutch with that power if not higher. The only way to reach 300whp from a baseline of about 100whp is to do a turbo or nitrious, turbo being the best choice along with a long list of parts. The whole turbo setup will have to be custom including the manifold. Other parts will be hard to find and expensive. 300whp is possible and it has been done, but it wont be easy or cheap. The first thing you should do is a 5-speed swap and learn how to drive it(unless you already know how). Then go and get a junkyard motor and strip it down and start building it back up.

    Re: Silly noob. :D

Why would I want to buy a new motor, though?

I see what you're saying about the 5spd. I hadn't thought about those issues yet, I just set a number in my mind and hoped to reach for it. As I said, I'm not very experienced YET, but I'm trying to learn more. Right now, I'm at the point where I've set a goal, now I need to move on to what I need to accomplish that goal. Would you happen to know what parts I would need, all of them, exactly? If you did, I would appreciate the help immensely. I can query local yards for prices on my own, unless you know a website that does that stuff. ;P

    Re: Silly noob. :D

Hrm, actually that sounds like quite a task haha! So, if I switch to the turbo, I'm going to need to go to 5spd? :/ I just had my current auto replaced at a rate of $500, damn good deal for a rebuild and installed. Where am I going to want to start? Converting my car to 5spd, then the boost controller+turbo+intercooler? What else will I need to install it? Parts wise.

Really? Hm.... Okay, so when you guys say you did your swaps for this, you're excluding the price of labor. I'll assure you, I'm no mechanic. ;P I know a lot of complicated work will be involved, and I'm not sure what all I'd be changing, even with that FAQ, which is VERY helpful. First of all, I'm going to want to prepare the transmission in advance to accept the horsepower I plan to achieve (no sense spending more money for nothing right?), so I'm assuming the clutch/flywheel aren't going to be sufficient.

    Re: Silly noob. :D

Well to have a 300whp (or even close)daily driver you will have to rebuild the motor, so if you get a extra motor you will have a shorter down time. As far as parts go im not sure on everything. How much are you looking to spend??? Even if you do all the work yourself you looking at spending a couple thousand dollars. If you do a stock rebuild with a cam shaft and ADJ gear, a few ignition upgrades, a 5-speed swap and turbo setup with like 8-10psi you can probably get around 200hp.
