Re: What Kind of Radio do you got?

Some Kenwood HU with 20bit brown burr DAC and tripple 6v pre-outs
    DLS 6.5" components front
DLS 6.5" 2 way speakers rear, they have a proper outboard 2 way crossover
Alpine Type X 10" DVC Sub
MTX Thunder 4320 4 * 40w RMS for the speakers
Rockford Fosgate Punch 600w @ 2 ohm monoblock for the sub

The HU and speakers I got from a car audio place that sells weird brands I've never heard of before, Rainbow, Focal and DLS. I had gone in looking for Infinity Kappa (which I had in my 3G and other cars) but once I heard these brands I knew it was time for a change. Sub and amps were second hand.

The first owner of my car (some retard in Japan) replaced the factory Bose stereo with some crappy Kenwood unit (lots of flashy lights etc) and some Alpine DDLinear components front and DDLinear 2 ways in the rear and some navigation/tv system. This shit sounded worse than the factory stuff in my gen 5 wagon. Most of it ended up in the rubbish :P

Oh and the wagon has a cheap Panasonic HU (still has tripple 2v preouts with sub frequency control!) and the factory components at the front, factory bullshit dual cones in the rear doors.

Has anyone (proably only factory B20A owners) come across the factory 5" woofer behind the centre console in their car? My first 3G had it, I remember replacing my front speakers and couldn't work out why I still had distortion. Then I thought I was going mad, cause the distortion sound seemed to be coming from the middle of my dashboard. Took out the thing that holds tapes and found a speaker with it's own sealed enclosure there! The surround had wasted away, so I went to a dismantlers yard and found another one in good condition for $5NZ and plugged it in, worked perfectly Seems a bit stupid though, as you can fit up to 6.5" speakers in the doors

Pics by chance? I'd toss a standard 6.5 in there, talk about the perfect center channel!

Re: What Kind of Radio do you got?

Great choice, I would love an Eclipse 8v screen personally, those are awesome.
Right now I have an Alpine CDA-9813 in my car.
This is what I have waiting to go in my car come spring... DVA-7996, IMO one of the best decks alpine ever made... Oh and I would never buy a new alpine deck, there are much better choices out there.

Still deciding whether I want to get some screens or not.

Na sorry this pre-dates digital cameras :P Anyway it was a small sealed enclosure with 5" woofer, no way to put a larger speaker in. Also it was hidden by the lower dash.

Heck, even a 4 inch speaker would do well. It's more the position than the size, and something like that would be perfect.

I'm sure one will show up on the Bay eventually

Oh and my system is all sony with all kicker speakers. I also have the last of the mobile es series amps the xm-7557.

Re: What Kind of Radio do you got?

the es systems were great dude. i had one myself. where did i get my info? lol...well when i used to work for circuit city they would send us out to conventions and shit...and we had reps come all the time. one of them became kinda my buddy and started telling me how sony was really just a name brand that was more expensive than anything else lol. for example...sony's TV's arent really made by sony per say....they're made by samsung but have the sony brand name stamped on. there are other numerous products that are made by different 3rd party companies...some big ones like LG and samsung...and all sony does is just stylize it the sony way and add proprietary shit and so on and so forth.

have you ever noticed (ive tested this) that some remotes like tv's vcrs and other shit from other companies work on sony products? lol

i dunno i just dont like a company that is fucking twice as expensive as something else. using tvs as an example again....a samsung flat screen (not panel) is like 500 bucks...sony will sell the same type of tv for 800+. if you look at them side by side...same fucking tv lol.

the xplod shit looks gay in my opinion...gay advertising...cheap looks and just plain flimsy. I guess i am and will always be an alpine guy...
