Question Those with Cold Air Intakes please chime in.....

Just curious, do the Cold air Intakes (short or ram style) make a "seat in the pants" per say diff? I mean can you really notice amped up power? I'm thinking of doing it (once I get my tranny issues resolved...5 speed...hmmmm). My LXI stock has got a good kick to my surprise (at freeway speed the most), can only image it with a few upgrades....

If you want short ram don't bother with the expensive WEAPON R stuff. I bought one and it is a good product BUT if you pay close attention it is the same thing as an intake for an 86 Honda Prelude which you can find on EBAY for cheap. I bought one for the 86 prelude because I was curious and sure enough it was the exact same thing. I would go for it. It made a little different but it sounds great!

don't bother with short ram. it can give you some power but it can also rub some.
just get true cold air intake. you can get cheap ones on ebay or you can make one yourself.
my first one i made it myself. this is what it looked like. it took me about 2 hours not including the time for a paint to dry.

a few intakes from other car will fit without major modification.
90-93 integra intake will fit, but you may have to cut it up to make it fit.
5th gen Accord 94-98 intake will fit. You just have to make cut the whole in the fender bigger. (this one fits the best). https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56851 he says it is from 6 gen accord but it is actually 5th gen.

the other thing you have to worry is vacuum lines. if you have 86-87 LXI you have to drill and tap 3 vacuum ports. If you have 88-89 i think you just need one.

Wow, thanks for all the replies!! I'm thinking the ram air style piped all the way to the front. It must give a good jolt over stock I would think yeah? Anyone notice better gas milage too or meh? Of course this would work best w/a header and exhaust I suppose?

i hope you are not thinking about huge gains. it won't be nothing like if you had 50 shot of nitrous.
You probably will gain 3-6 hp at the top, nothing big.
Yes you would feel a lot more power if you have headers and full exhaust done.

do you have pictures of your intake? i just want something to get rid of the cluttered stock intake. the prelude ram intakes that are visible on ebay seem to have 3 ports on the intake, did you plug some of them up or did you use them all?

you would have to make the whole that goes from the engine bay to the bottom of the bumper bigger...it might not clear the batt...on mine we just cleared it by hairs width

at the very least it makes it sound better when the secondaries open up. assuming you have the stock intake manifold, that is.

sounding like it has more hp is almost as good, right?

as was mentioned above, i would recommend making your own. i would also suggest /h/e to notice really anything. those three might give you a genuine 'seat of the pants' feel... before you consider altering intake manifold, map, cam, drivetrain for real results.
