finally the vaccume powered cupholder project makes progress

got some of the mechanicals done today, the cyl mounts under the drivers seat longways, and i made a lever assembly that increases the length of the stroke and changes it's direction.
the lever will operate a pushrod that slides the cup holder in and out of it's case. the cupholder will mount to the beam right under the front edge of the drivers seat, and will slide in or out with a switch.
    here is the holder.

all right everything fits nicely behind the computer under the drivers seat.even with the seat all the way forward, you can just see the edge of it. i will have to make the mounting plate for the cup holder itself, i can't figure a way to directly attach screws into it,so i'll bond a 1/8 aluminum plate to the bottom of it,with epoxy. then the plate will attach with machine screws. once i get these two pieces mounted painted, and everything else, then i can add the linkages. and hook up the vaccume valves to the switch. then it will be done.

Very nice Tim, but how is it going to reach the cup holder if the actuator is under the seat?

i'm not too lazy to open it,just an interesting way to do it. and the cupholder will slide out from under the seat,it's attached to the beam under the drivers seat so your drinks are right at the front edge of the seat. it doesn't get in the way at all i tried it i'm putting a different kind of holder on my wifes side. this is like james bond stuff

LOL I love your videos. You'd think a rocketship is going to take off, or that there is some amazing black hole that is going to be opened. Then out pop the cupholders. I love it. It would be pretty bitchen to have power cupholders like that. Are you going to flip a switch then or pull a lever or something to make it open and close?

Re: finally the vaccume powered cupholder project makes progress

    heres where it will mount,
it goes a little bit more towards the passenger seat when installed. it gets another sperhical ball joint on the other end too, where it attaches to the holder.
the tank for the brake booster,i'm just going to tap off of it for vaccume. i had already figured on doing this when i put it in,so theres a 1/8 npt pipe thread tap on top for this.
i finally got a good pic of the vaccume hose where it comes into the car too. and the clamp i made for it. i'll be glad when i get my carpet in.

naa it's telling me it was a shitty weld, the mechanism other then that works flawlessly. needs 3.5 inches of travel to open the holder all the way,i've got exactly that amount. should work with no problem.

all right i fixed the weld, it was the fact i had the bearing holder misaligned was what it was trying to tell me.

and the bracets on the cup holder itself are on,the plate is epoxied to the plastic makes it a lot stronger

    this is a stupid question:

why do you need "powered" cup holders?
