Best way to remove a spindle nut

Okay you master wrenches out there probably know this already, but I just figured it out today, so humor me. We all know that an impact gun is the best way to remove a spindle nut, but you can't take that to the junkyard with you. I tried this today and it was almost as good.

Below is a simple tempered steel punch I bought years ago to remove pressed cartridge bearings.

    And here's the trick.

I just dropped it in the rotor vent and gave it heck. I pulled both spindle nuts with no fuss. I put all my weight (145 lbs.) on my 18" breaker bar and it was no problem. I've used that punch here and there over the years for goofy stuff where I just needed something that was extraordinarily tough and it's been great. Well worth the $5 or so it cost.

I figured I was late to this party. But I figured there'd still be a lot of people that could benefit from it.

Never thought of that. I have a compressor on wheels I could take if I really needed it but this would help not having to bring it. Is that a 32mm nut?

I just broke it loose with the wheel still on and the car on the ground! The electric impact wrench helped too, though.

Was yours $15 from the Walnut Creek Hospice Thrift Store? That would be awesome!
