    '85 Exhaust in UK.

    Hi Guys,

Sorry I've not been around so much recently - the work has been manic!

The rear section of the exhaust on my '85 Accord needs replacing. Oddly enough, the silencer/muffler is in great shape, but the pipe forward of it has rusted along its seam, and has gone through right where it meets the box.

The problem is that I'm having some trouble getting it replaced. Kwik-Fit can't find a stockist (they say that it has been discontinued, though I'm inclined to believe that this is utter poppycock!) and any local fitters that can find one want to charge over £100 to fit it. As my student loan is just about to be blown on the rent, I can't really afford £100 at the moment, so I'm just going to have to bung it up with an exhaust patch for the present. As it's only a little hole, this should be OK in the short term.

For the longer term, however, does anyone know where I can get a cheaper replacement? Or is £100 the order of the day? For the sake of interest, I'd love to know how much it costs in the USA as well.

    Thanks,
    John.

just whack an aftermarket muffler on it
oem style replacement jobs are always way to expensive
cost me less to do a full mandral bent system than replace the factory back box
    oh yeah
    who's your EPL team?

John, try ringing these guys, do not know anything about them but they list the hatch, so might have a saloon.

Also a call to Lancaster Honda, just in case they have one gathering dust and want rid, you can always laugh at them if they price it high.
Have you tried Dave Helme at Anne Helme Garage up at the University. If it's a little hole he might weld it.
£100 to fit a silencer seems savage. Kwik-Fit are as in the name, ask a lot of Kwik-Fit fitters for anything that they have to think about and it's DUH???? If they were any good, they would be working elsewhere.

John, also try posting it up here

There are a couple of the site users have an Accord like yours, so might have a parts supplier.

I got my back box from a motor factors a couple of years ago, can't remember who but it was around 50.00 pounds all in - trade - & I fitted it easily with the car parked on the ground. Try your local motor factors.

Thanks for the help guys! I'm happy to have a go at fitting it myself, so I think I'll check with the motor factors first.

If that fails, I had found one online for around £60, but I can't seem to find it now. Typical!

    Thanks again!
    John.

    Re: '85 Exhaust in UK.

Thanks for the link. My local motor factor stocks it, but for £91($134)! Just a tad expensive, I think.

I'll look into having it welded. That's the odd thing, really. The silencer box still looks like new - it's just the pipe in front that is blowing very slightly where it is welded to the silencer. I'm very careful to avoid short trips if I can help it, so I guess it's down to a poor weld or something.

Anyway, will let you all know how it goes.

    Thanks,
    John.

£32.95 inc. p&p to your door, can't beat that, good find, I'm almost tempted to buy one to put on the shelf, if the shelf wasn't full of mk1 escort and scooby bits my boys think I want to look after!!!

Oh that's fantastic! You've made my day, Denhonda. It looks a pretty straightforward job to fit it, so I'll have a go myself.

    Ta muchly!
