    Custom door panels (Y)

Oh shit! Its me and my 'custom' work again haha! Few years back I did this:

    From this (stock, EW!):

I'm getting sick of the upper chrome trim (not so chrome anymore as they are peeling haha) falling off randomly and I can never find a proper way to get them to stay permanently and since I converted my windows to electric windows, I have no other way to mount the switches other than the center console and I always wanted door mounted ones for some reason ><

I played around with the idea of combining different parts from other cars. I always loved 3geez door armrests with the window switches. Went junkyard hunting yesterday to find them, sadly theres one 1 3g but its missing drivers side door panel. I'm like FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU dfsdfsdghsdgdsghdsgsda and about to set the whole junkyard on fire ><

Anyway theres 7 2g around so I'm like uh I'm sure I can make them fit somehow so I went home with this mess:

They are out of a 2g Accord if you can't tell heh. My plan is to combine them both together and have them looking stock (Y).

Heres what I did so far:

Lotsa work needed, they are longer up front:

And shorter at the back -.- Why Honda WHYYYYYYYY?!! But then I realized hay that adds the fun to it :p I KNEW it wont be plug and play. I love custom work and making things fit on a tight budget (Y)

Chopped up with 1g part up on the top

What it should look like with carpeted bottom

I'm gonna rewrap them in black vinyl with matching fabric for the center part with my seats obviously.

No such thing as "decent" in my book :p haha kidding! That would mean theres gonna be gaps on the B pillar trim. But I've got that fixed anyway!

    PICS!

Starting to look like a door panel now :p

    Black vinyl! And wrinkles -.-

What it should look like. Still a long way to go. Wish me luck!

Blahh. Not perfect :\ Hate this but theres no way I'm gonna be able to get rid 100% of the wrinkles. I hate the area around the speaker but that is the best that I could do. I actually ripped them and redid the vinyl again because it was worse before (N). Just ask anybody that have done upholstery work before, shit isn't easy >< But yeah its not done, I still have to fix the upper and bottom part. I need a break ><

    Re: Custom door panels (Y)

what kind of glue are you using? you need some really strong upholstery contact cement, don't use the spray stuff it's not strong enough to keep off the wrinkles, and eventually will start to release. start covering the center part with the armrest first and work out, also get one of those plastic wallpaper rollers. also what type of vinal are you using? if it's the heavy thick wallmart stuff forget it, you''ll never get the wrinkles out, you need automotive upholstery vinal, it's a lot thinner and it stretches much better then the thick stuff. there's a lot of it on ebay, let me know and i'll try to find you a link. people have been trying to stretch that thick vinal for decades, it never works.

I'm using some upholstery glue, its really strong but I guess its the vinyl being a little too thick I got them from local upholstery shop too. But its looking a lot better on the driver's side panel. I'm not expecting too much considering this is my first time dealing with stuffs like this. I have done simple flat surface which is a piece of cake. This is too much for me right now I guess.

But worst case, I'll just redo them (:

you are doing fine it takes practice is all, i'm going to redo the top of my doors and rear panels again, so i'll be getting some of the artificial leather, it's about 1/32 thick with a sprayed on foam back, it's just like the material used factory

Yeah thanks Considering this is the first time I'm dealing with curvy stuffs, which many agreed they look decent enough. I have OCD with things not being perfect though
