    Re: 85 SE-i

Finally got a chance to take some pics. been busy with holiday stuff.

The front end looked like it got hide. the fender was a little smashed not bad so i just swapped mine i had from my white 84.
the sunroof drains where plunged so he taped it i got them unplugged which was really easy don't know why he didn't do it.. the seats are cracked but that's fine nothing a seat cover cant fix until i find someone to redo them for me. i smell some oil burning when i stop at a stop light. i saw on my exhaust pipe some oil on it dont know where it is coming from. it back fires a little at idle but i havent dont a tune up on it yet so hoping that fixes it.
but all in all i think its a good car.

    Re: 85 SE-i

No SEi alloys? Bummer about that. Pretty typical of those leather seats too, but hell your door panels look to be in pretty good shape. The whole car looks straight and rust-free. Not a bad find! I'm sure that oil leak is probably from the oil filter adapter on the back of the block. They all do that.

    Re: 85 SE-i

I'd definitely get rid of that crazy maze of an intake they have on that thing. The problem is that I think the throttle body has an oval outlet, because they used that crazy progressive dual throttle body setup. Maybe some silicone sleeves hose clamped around it can be used. Either way, that mess of boxes and air filter setup could be swapped for a simple cold-air intake that might benefit you. And also sound cool at the same time.

    Re: 85 SE-i

yeah i was trying to look into that but i dont want to buy a universal cold air intake and have it not work.
ill take a look at it and see if its the oval shape when i change my valve cover seal.
is that all i can do to it for performance just header and intake? i was looking at some new "performance" injectors does it really make a difference?

    Re: 85 SE-i

Injectors won't really do crap. They are delivering the right amount of fuel for your car now, so no point unless you start making lots of power with a turbo or something...

Header and intake? Yeah, that's about all you can do on most engines. You can probably get a reground cam, give you a bit more top end, but might sacrifice some bottom end. Advance the timing a couple degrees.

If you wanted to go nuts, just bore out the cylinders to A20 specs and run some A20 pistons in it. Should bump up the compression and displacement. Swap over to a tunable ECU, have some big valves installed and the head ported... The imagination is your limit.

I had new 85 Se-i leather seats but I think they died in Florida when I left.

Yes I know what this is. You most likely have an air bubble trapped in your cooling system and you will need to "burp" the cooling system to get this out. 95% of the time it's as simple as that. It could also be an indication of your fast idle thermovalve either going bad or getting stuck open when the engine is warm. Burp the cooling system first and if that doesn't solve your problem you can manually adjust the plunger back in. Your fast idle valve is located on the back of your intake manifold, just in front of the throttle body. It has two coolant lines running to it and has a metal plate on top held on by two phillips head screws. Remove that plate and you will see the plunger inside which has a slot on either side of it. Take a flat blade screwdriver, insert it into one of the slots and start cranking it in until it bottoms, but be gentile with it while doing this. Once it bottoms, back it off between 1/2 to 1 full turn. Put the plate back on and run it. If it still does the "idle bounce" you will need a new valve.

Oh and welcome to the forum!!!

Isn't there a bleed screw on the thermostat housing for this very purpose?
