cleaning engine bay?

so before i put the b18 in my coupe i want to clean the engine bay and maybe paint it. Ive read around that some people use oven cleaner, but ive also read that you shouldnt use it on aluminum has any one here used this?
I was also reading about using a product called simple green. Any suggestions.

Simple green is no good for what ur wanting to do. ive used gunk engine degreaser but you will have to still scrapa little bit unless you got atleast a 2500 psi pressure washer.

And don't use oven cleaner on aluminum. It will etch it. Just use Gunk or some engine cleaner. Spray on, let sit, wash and scrub, repeat.

Honestly I think I used lemon oven cleaner lol but then again I planned on repainting it.... All you need is somthing to get the initial junk off, I mean if you plan on painting it you'll need to sand the whole damn thing anyway:

i use petrol, or gasoline as you call it over there. and a hose/rags/brush/whatever. works a charm also easier to strip the engine bay of all the crap instead of masking it. such as brake booster, prop valve, fuse box, p/s lines, resivoir etc.. its also fun cleaning/painting those parts you take off & reinstalling them again

If you can find it (I have to drive two hours to get this stuff, not sure how common it is elsewhere), Auto Balm makes a rattle-can version of their cleaning agent. It's water-based and works really well. If I hadn't been standing there when someone was using it on a Civic I would've never believe it did a better job that four hours hand-scrubbing my 3G with Purple Power.

Believe it or not................... Liquid Dish soap. Use the name brand kind though (Dawn, Palmolive etc). Put it in a spray bottle. Shake it up so its sudsy (cover up electrical componets of engine) and spray it down. Let it sit for a few hours, then wash it off with a garden hose. Afterways spray it down with some Armor all and let it dry. Amazing results

well the stock engine is already out of the car so thats no problem. I picked up a can of gunk so ill see how that turns out.
