    Where'd These Washers Go Again?

I Found A Mysterious Bag Under My Trunks Spare Tire Containing 10 Blackish Heavy 1/16" Thick x 1" OD Washers. I Guess Somehow From When I Did My Rebuild, I Lost Them There. The Bag's Labeled H--d St-- ------. Oil And Water Wiped Alot Of The Writing Off To Where I Can't Read It, But, I Labeled And Bagged/Tape Marked Everything That Came Out As I Took It Out, So I'm Guessing It Read "Head Stud Washers." Are These Important To Have On The Head Studs? I've Run The Motor For Over 3k Miles Since The Rebuild, And Didn't Realize It...

Just for future reference, and to anybody reading this later. Your car will not run without head studs, they hold the head to the block.

That sounds like the end of a joke that started with "you might be a redneck" lol. Although I would like to try welding a head to a block, and see how much boost that thing could take!

It does not have to be an A20, it could be an old chevy motor. Just so long as it's a combustion engine that has a cylinder head, and you weld it to the block, then boost it until it explodes !

I speak of this because my dad 6 years back bought a jeep, didn't check under the hood or anything, drove it home from portland, or to fresno, CA on 4 cyls.
he takes it to a shop it's got a hole in the block and the head is welded to the block

I did miss that, but same concept since the washers are what contact the head for the most part surface area wise. As well the TQ specs could be off without those washers.

Oh that sucks, I would have been pissed if I found that out. Ive seen JBweld used to fix a cracked block on a ford before, did not work out well lol.

I would think it would be very hard to torque the bolts without the washers. I would expect the bolts to dig into the head something fierce. I can't imagine that you'd get the whole thing back together without them. One could always pop the valve cover and take a peek to make sure though.
