    Exhaust size?

What size exhaust tubing are you running? And do you have clearance problems?

I went through both threads - found a reference to 2" - My buddy who does custom pipes says 2" should be plenty for a 2L motor that is not too heavily modified.

    Re: Exhaust size?

I'm running 2.25 inch mandrel bent piping, and it's too big for a stock Accord. It took a cam, and bigger carbs before the low end power loss went away.
Lostforawhile:we have to pick on him he's CAH he spray painted himself into this corner with the accord.

Remember if you have mandrel bends you dont have the bend restrictions, there are guys running much more horsepower then most of us do, i went 2 inch mandrel bends because im going to be running two big carbs, cam, ignition, headwork, full length headers etc

then just go 2 1/4 , if you are running a stock engine or close to it, then 2 even with regular bends is probably fine

    Re: Exhaust size?

I have couple of setups for my various cars, the racing lude has 2.5" mandrel bent with 2" down pipes and 2.5" collector very unrestrictive and gave reasonable power gains over the old system which was 2" but I think 2.25" would have been very similar I don't seem to have lost anything low down just gained power nicely overall and bit more top end power.

On my mint lude I didn't want anything too loud as it's a nice Sunday sunny day driver and the engine is only little bit tweaked as apposed to full on racing spec like the other one so just has, stock tweaked carbs, and modified intake box with a 2" mandrel bent system with twin exit rear silencer, middle sports silencer, and 1.75" down pipes into 2" collector. This setup made 115bhp and 127.5lbft from A18 engine fitted a 272 degree cam and feels like a very healthy 130-135bhp and pulls very nicely to 7500rpm.

3" is a waste unless your going full blown turbo or mental N/A build on a H23 vtec hybrid I also suspect it's crush bent as well, you'll be better off with a nice mandrel bent 2.25" lighter and high flowing if you really are trying to get 200bhp plus out of the car then custome header with 1.5" primaries, 2" downpipes and 2.5" mandrel bent system all day long but you'll be needing to talk to me about heads, valves and some pretty trick induction system to make that kind of power.

No crush bends, lol.. With a precision billet 6262. I am not looking for what? the 4**hp slip that has been done. I am looking for way more in a steet car.
There are no fitment issues with the 3" and vibrant muffler.

Trying to get over 200hp?!? If thats all I would get I wouldnt even be spendind my money or taking this long to get the car going. And as for the head it's being worked on as we speak of this and a few other things to.

    Re: Exhaust size?

If you give us a more accurate picture off what you are trying to build would help a lot more.
Can you detail what headwork you are having done other than it's in the head shop now?
Are you going with a full blown turbo setup or Naturally aspirated setup?
If it's a Naturally aspirated setup you need different type of headwork versus turbo setup.
I have the most worked on heads and have been doing headwork on these for the last 10 years I also know quite a bit about building the blocks to some pretty tight specs. I have built quite a few 200bhp ET/A20 engines in the last 5years and before that ones with 170-180bhp.
You really have to know what you are doing with these engines to get more than 180bhp Naturally aspirated if you are going turbo then 3-400bhp is easy but building it so it doesn't melt a pistons or burn a valve is another story!
If your going N/A build then 2.5" mandrel bent system is perfect, but you'll have to have a custom header made 1.5" primary and 2" secondaries, 2.5" collector.
If your going Turbo 3" downpipe and system mandrel bent will be more than fine but make sure you find a mandrel bender not crush bender.
