New guy some questions

Hey guys my name is Ron and I have a 1985 Accord Hatchback 1.8 ES2 motor and a 5 speed, my question is if I wanted to change my carb (leaking, someone used a hammer to "get it going") what head could I use to replace my CVCC head, also what manifold would allow a simple 2bbl or even 1 bbl if I wanted to do a MPG test mule.

My final question is besides the obvious vacuum lines (brake, dist, and AC) can I just give the car a vacuum-dectomy and rip out the other vacuum lines?

I appreciate the info in advance I tried to search the archives but have had no good luck with the search engine and there is even less info online for the ES2 motor WIKI doesnt even mention that this motor is a CVCC style.

Sorry but no, that's for the '79-83 Accord EK series engines.

There is some info about for the ES engines of the "84/5 models about though if you hunt about more...
I'm not the person to ask though the 2nd gen Preludes (excluding JDM/EDM B20 rarities) can provide an alternative head/manifold with factory twin carburettors.

The only luck you might have going to a non-cvcc head design with a simple, small 2bbl factory carb setup would be to get the cylinder head off of the EZ engine up in Canada. It's the 1.6 liter version of our ES2 motor but has none of the CVCC mess. It's also got a nice simple carb that will fit.

However, it's not something that I think will benefit you as it may raise compression, and I'm not sure if the cylinder bores are the same size... If you're looking for a carb swap, you can order adapter plates to fit the standard Weber carbs onto the stock intake manifold. Then you'll have a whole array of Weber and Weber-style carbs that you can install onto your engine. There are all sorts of Webers, Holley 5200 series carbs from factory GM, Chrysler and Ford vehicles, and probably a few others that share the same flange that will fit the Weber adapter kits.

The easiest thing to do that I would recommend is to pick up the Weber DGEV 32/36 kit from Pierce Manifolds. The carb will come pre-jetted for your car and just about everything will be a bolt-on affair. You'll have to play with the throttle linkage some, but I think you'll find it very nice to have a brand new, properly jetted carb to fit on your car. The gas mileage won't be spectacularly better, but it is definitely better than a hammer-tuned carb!

I do have a question about the shifter I want to rebuild it but dont know where to get parts can i use the poly kit for a CRX can I use most parts from that car....

No problem. I do believe that the CRX kit will work, but I haven't confirmed it yet myself. I do believe the short shifters from those will work as well. I do know that the shifter setup in the 2nd gen is the same as the 3rd gen. So anything that fits the 3rd gen (86-89) will work as far as the shifter goes. I think there are few stickies in the 3g section you can check as far as what will work.

Oh I forgot to mention earlier, the Weber kit is NOT emissions friendly. It isn't CARB approved if you're in one of those areas. From what I hear though you can get them to pass emissions with proper tuning if you really know what you're doing.

I have a complete Canadian ET2 engine, with 2 sets of the (notoriously problematic) twin side draft carburettors. At one time, I was going to install that engine into my 82 hatch, but decided to install instead, uh, other things. Anyways, you can have the engine and both sets of carbs to play with for 200 bucks CDN. I payed 300 for the engine a few years ago and way too much for second set of carbs. I know most people complain about that setup, but the cylinder head is bombproof, no CVCC, good (for factory) valvesprings and camshaft, and the factory manifold is easily adaptable to any 1bbl side draft carburettor you choose (ie bike carbs!). Plus it should be somewhat emissions legal. Just go peel the VECI decal off of a prelude.

I'd just love to see someone actually tinker with and use this setup like I wanted to. BTW the parts are located in Rossland, BC, Canada.

Sounds like those carbs aren't too horrible. Here's a dyno of a tweaked dual-carb ET motor. Pretty impressive gains, especially in torque, just adding exhaust and tuning the stock carbs.

Thanks that is a good deal but I am going to leave the stock carb since I have found the leak and repaired it everything works great, also found a second power lead for the fuel pump seems the PO had no idea that the fuel pump ONLY works when you start or run the engine NOT when the key is on....so i repaired all that now all is great, But I do need to replace the seat covering front and back....and there is no PS pump PS rack but no pump...but by getting the HONDA service manual I was able to repair ALOT of problems.

Anyone know where I could get the seat covers like factory to replace..cant seem to find anywhere online but Im going to keep looking.

so if i read that right, this should fit my hatch correct? i been searchin up and down the net for one of these for our 2g's
