I am a sick, sad individual

Well, my valve cover was looking rather shabby (peeling paint, corrosion, etc) so I decided to paint it. For a second I was going to paint it red but then I quickly remembered that I'm not a ricer. Eventually I decided on gunmetal gray, hammerite gunmetal gray to be exact. The first step was to clean it, and since I don't do anything half-assed I went to a friends place and sand blasted that bitch. After that I soaked it in my parts washer to loosen any sand that may have encrusted itself inside. Then I blew it out with compressed air and masked it off:

Since I was fresh out of zinc chromate I bought a can of adhesion promoter, after a few coats of that and then it was on to the paint. What you see below is the finished product:

And here is a shot of it on my car after about a month:

It's been about 4 months since then and it still looks as good as the day I painted it. I give it a 10 out of 10
    Products used:
Dupli-Color Adhesion promoter (sourced from a autoparts store)
Krylon fusion hammered finish (sourced from wal-mart)

I used the fusion stuff all I did was clean my wipers then paint and did 4 light coats but they will probably chip, or maybe not fusion works great.

    That's the idea.

This makes me want to paint my whole car in hammerite now, it would look awesome. Not to mention it would hide all the dents and dings.

Re: I am a sick, sad individual

I think that would look awsome. take a pic of your car and do a photoshop on it and change your car color to hammerrite and see what it looks like. if you post a pic of your car ill photoshop it if you dont have photoshop or dont know how to use it.

Re: I am a sick, sad individual

I masked it off because I wanted the sandblasted finish for all the raised lettering on the cover. And yes, it was a pain in the ass.
Here is an older shot of my car:

Also, here is a shot my my 7 if you're feeling frisky:

I'll take another shot of the accord today, since I've repainted the bumper and fixed the door since that fall shot.
