    Newb with a DX.

Hey all, I'm Sam, I'm 17, and I bag groceries. I was referred here by my coworker Evan (who owns an '88 2.0Si hatchie) after showing him my recent acquisition, and I gotta say, I am impressed by this forum.

Anyway...I got mine at the beginning of the summer as a first car/ride to college/high school graduation gift. It's an old 1989 Accord DX, 4-door, 5-speed stick. Only major beef with it so far is that the AC compressor is fucked, and I haven't been able to find any for cheap...that, and the interior is pretty trashed. The previous owner installed a pretty banging sound system in it though, which is nice. As for actual performance, it's a champ. My dad (who holds a Class B driver's license and drives a fire engine) was able to go bustin' up narrow windy mountain roads at like 70MPH with no issues at all. Something about a "double wishbone suspension...."

Anyway, I'm just kinda keeping it stock right now, but later on down the road, I'd like to be able to tune it and get some "wheeeee" out of it.

And does anyone know where I can find a cheap compressor? Everywhere I've looked they were like $350....

Try Rockauto.com, they have several compressors for under 300. Do you have the Keihin or Denso compressor?

    Also, where are you located?

Thanks for the tip. I'm not exactly sure what kind I have...how would I find this out?

I live in central Cali, in this little mountain town on the edge of the Sierras.

I don't know. I wouldn't put it past him to change the badges around.

Thanks. It wasn't exactly under the hood, but it was in the engine bay.

It is indeed a Keihin. There was also a number on the sticker, but it was too worn away to be legible.

Now, I was told that since this is a California vehicle, I would need a specific model of compressor to comply with whatever laws. I'm looking at a Four Seasons #57871...will this work?

All the sites we were looking at before Rock Auto were asking if it was a Cali/non-Cali vehicle. This led us to believe there was some kinda special law that only Cali had.

Thanks for your input. I've gone ahead and ordered it...now I can drive in the summer without sweating like a pig and/or getting my hair messy. And defog my windows.

    Re: Newb with a DX.

Update....something in the cooling system shit the bed. My dad and I were out practicing driving, we noticed a friend was in their driveway, and we pulled over to chat. Left it idling...ended up sitting there for like five minutes...eventually, the temp gauge hit the red and steam started coming out from under the hood (closer to the right side). So we popped the hood, opened the coolant tank, and dumped some garden hose water in there. It held until we made it home, thankfully...but that's one thing I really don't feel like paying for.

We think it's the overflow bottle...anyway...5 posts. pic tiem? k

Gotta love that DX classiness. :P

Minor blemish...only real thing wrong with the exterior.

Mah dawg keeping me company during a cleaning session.

Gotta love that kidney bean red. :P

Previous owner was kind enough to throw in a pretty banging sound system.

Plastic on the door is kinda peeling.

    Could use some seat covers....

I dunno...there was coolant all over the street, so there's a leak somewhere. And it cooled right back down and stayed there after we hit it with the hose.

And yeah, I'm surprised at the shape it's in, considering it was only $1500. I would start a build thread, if I had some money to burn......

Coolant leak was a false alarm...there weren't any cracks in the recovery bottle or any of the hoses. Thermostat works too. Pretty sure the coolant was just overfilled.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet. Where are you in Central Cal? I'm in the Fresno area (Reedley).

Hey Sam! Glad you found your way to the site.

He was referring to my hatch, which is an LXi, with a prelude 2.0Si badge on it.. I could see where he got confused.

Anyways, accord looks nice sam. If you need any help with let me know!
