oh man this all is turning out to be harder then i thought first of all i didn't rely think to hard about how the water flowed and when i ripped the intake mani off i lost all of my coolent (thanks a fucking lot gravity) and then it took me way longer then i rembered to get the mani off . humm then the other adaptor plate didnt line up line up and fit like i thought it would in my mind so i thought about trying to fill in the old holes with jb weld and re locating them but then i decided to just use the adaptor as a template and just make my own because the quality on the redline webber adaptor plates is very questionable to say the least. so im gonna go pick up some metal stock today and try to get this all together tonight

actually both shafts are about the same size, there is an intermediate shaft that runs in the center right off the transmission.

I was wondering how you were planning on using that adapter on the Canadian manifold. They have different stud patterns and different port shapes for the carb... It will be interesting to see what you come up with though.

wow i just realized that it hadd been a while since i did and update so i guss here it goes i got the crazy adaptor plate mad and the car running and idleing whell but now my tach is all over the map. but i can play it by ear prety whell. Before i headed off to basic i took it on the freeway for the first time and it survived the trip there and back with out any misshaps. then about two days later i gargued it and gave my mom instructions to turn it over once a week got on an airplane and headed off to basic. It was a hard and rewarding 6.5 weeks and i defentaly thought back to haw many sleepless nights i had working tell all hours on my car. I am an odd sort of person and when something is wrong i usaly cant sleep untell its fixed i would sometimes even find myself wake up at 2 am to go out and fix something stupid on the car or finish one more step. that served me whell in basic because wew never got much sleep. The thing i missed most was driving you never realize how much you miss the most mundane drive to and from work or even going somewhere you dont want to be. If you can enjoy it . i graduated basic and earned the title of ariman and headed off to where i am now in wichita falls tx at sheppard afb ill be here for 2 more months while i learn how to preform my job of crew cheif on the f22 raptor think glorifed mechenic with lots of paperwork. and then from there its over to florda and then back to the great(and normal sory texans )state of washington for a few weeks untell its off to langley afb vergenia. so i gess the point here is enjoy all the litttle problems on your cars and the time it takes to fix them because as inconvenient as it may be there may come a time when you dont have the luxery. thats my moment of zen i cant wait to be back home and see my friends and family and my car as much of a clunker as it may be . peace btw john when i get back we have to hook up and party.

Woo hoo partay! How's the weather been? Scorcher I take it. You know, if you send a few buck back this way for parts, I'd be more than happy to get your car running right and have her going for when you get back. Hell if you want, I'll do the interior, and get some springs, paint, etc.

Let me know when you get back! Definitely gotta hang out.

That was an EK bottom end with an EL head on it. So that's why it looks like the non-cvcc EL. I got the cylinder head from Canada from guyhatesmycar. It was on his parents car, then transplanted into his car. That thing's got some history!

Okay Nathan, I went over to your house and checked out your car... I don't think there's a whole ton of work to do. First thing I need is the factory service manual so I can get some of the wiring taken care of.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-...spagenameZWD1V

    The wiring being the following:

    Fuel gauge is dead
    Tachometer is dead
Oil pressure switch not hooked up
    Temp gauge is dead
Radiator fan switch is overridden, for reliability, we should hook it to the switch.

When I first started the car up, it was making a horrific grinding noise. It sounded just awful. I took the upper timing belt cover off and found the cam gear bolt was making it's way back out, and the gear was loose. I suspect the belt may have slipped as well, since the cam is now timed to about 18 degrees and the car is gutless as hell.

Also, that rear engine mount needs to be replaced. The solid mount you made is going to rattle the car apart. They're only about $20-30 and will make the car much nicer to drive and diagnose problems.

Once the main electrical stuff is hooked up, and the timing belt is reset, I'll give the car a good tune. Reset the ignition timing and get the car a good idle. I'm sure she'll pick her power back up.

The engine looks a hell of a lot better since I last saw it. Good work cleaning up all that stuff and hooking it up right. Did you make that Weber adapter plate?

    Update.

    Fuel gauge now works.
    Tachometer now works.
Tested the temp gauge and it's good. Just a bad sending unit.
Tested the fan switch, and the fan circuitry works fine. Just the fan switch itself is dead.

I fixed the cam timing. The car runs MUCH smoother. It's amazing really. I also fixed the electric choke, it was hooked to a circuit that wasn't working. Probably why the car ran like crap after it was warmed up. The choke works properly now.

So tomorrow first thing in the AM, I'm picking up the temp sensors, another gallon of coolant, and I should have the engine all timed in and running great.

If I get a chance this week, I'll build the catch can, and plumb the charcoal canister into the carb as well. Probably after I throw new pads and rotors on it though.

So last night I got it running right finally. I took videos, but they didn't save onto the XD card in the camera! So they're still trapped in the camera... I hope it has a move function or it will be trapped forever! Maybe I'll just take my camera over there and get video...

Anywho, the fans kick on now, the temp gauge works. I reset the ignition timing (distributor was about 20 degrees off) so the car can actually climb the driveway under it's own power now! The car idles great at 900RPM, no noises or anything strange. I drove it around and let it get nice and warm and the temps stay where they should. I checked the timing with a light and it magically lined up right where it should be. Though I need to reset the mixture, get the idle down just a bit and reset the timing again...

Also, I hooked up the oil pressure switch. I found the wire taped up inside the wiring harness, hooked to another wire of the wrong color. Hehe. I put a ring terminal on the end of it and connected it up. Oil pressure light works as it should (doesn't come on while the car is running).

The car doesn't rattle itself apart anymore. It starts on the first crank, but I won't have a new engine mount until Friday for it. I need to know if you want me to pick up brake pads, shoes and rotors for it or not. Brakes need bleeding too...

I think some new tie rod ends and all four ball joints are in order too. There's some nice clunking in the rear end.

Engine sounds good though. I love how much crisper it sounds than the EK. Maybe it's the gutted cat. Either way, I'm excited to get it all tightened up.

Yeah it works. It didn't work before, but it suddenly started working when I was screwing with the wiring behind the gauges... I dunno why it works now really... same with the tach. Though I did unhook the coil then hook it back up again, but I didn't change anything... maybe just corroded connections? It slowly goes up to 1/4 tank now which is where it stayed when I was driving it around Lacey.

Bump for updates. Check out the car now. My friend bought it from Nathan about 6 months ago for $50 and has been driving it ever since. He put new engine mounts in, reseated the carburetor and replaced the throttle cable, and replaced the cam with a mild grind after the old one broke into pieces... And he went ahead and gave it a new rattlecan paintjob to make it all one color again. He showed up at my house today and I had to get pics.

The rattle can paint job came out pretty good! Too bad about all the dents in the car, but otherwise, you gotta love that green!

I've got two more friends with 2nd gens, and another with two civics, and his dad's S2000. Gotta get them all over in my driveway for pics. Should be quite crowded on Friday when there are at least two more 3geez in the driveway!

The Prelude, green 92 Accord and the 2gee are mine. The Integra is my brothers, the Acura RL is my moms and the tan 92 Accord belongs to my friend Brian. The Prelude I still have, the green Accord I gave to a friend and the 2gee I traded for a 90 CRX Si which I have sold. My brother sold the Integra to a guy in SoCal, my mom still has the RL and my friends wife got T-boned by a Suburban in their tan Accord. But I do still have my SE-i!!!!!
