82 Accord EX Hatchback (European version)

Hey there, my name is Eduardo and im form Portugal.
Recently i have bought a Accord Hatchback made in 1982, sold in Belgium and imported to Portugal in 1984.
This car was wrecked and rusted, the previous owner didnt care to much about him, so i made a ridiculus lower offer and he acepted. The same day the Accord came to the garage to make company to my Audi 80 GL from 1983
The car on the first trip to the countryside:

Now im starting to fix basic things.
One of the lower arms must be changed, but i cant seem to find the exact part that will fit in this model.
    The brakes must be revised
    Need A LOT of bodywork
    Needs new shock absorbers
Nees a lot of love and attention

    Thanks for all the welcomes!
    I have a question
The Control Arm for my accord is OEM number 51350-SA5-013, but in Honda they tell me that need to be replaced by 51350-SA5-505, because they dont know if the original part will fit! that just stupid.
    What do you think?

Re: 82 Accord EX Hatchback (European version)

Well maybe it's a parts difference between US and European cars... Because what I see here is that part number 505 has no vehicle application:

    http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...0-SA5-505.html

But part 013 fits the 82 Accord.

    http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...0-SA5-013.html

I would go with what the dealer suggests. I'm amazed they can actually get them to be honest. Worst case, just go aftermarket, since they're sold with new balljoints. You can probably get some high-quality aftermarket parts from a local parts store...

The problem is at the dealer " THIS PART IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE".
I am going for this one on ebay, it must fit on the accord, since on the Honda supliers programs stated that the part was the same. Its no OEM, but the real one would cost me 4 times more.

Eduardo ,this one appears to claim to fit either side, is a JDM Euro spec suspension the same as USA?

Be careful buying these online. The fitment issues that I've run into with control arms have forced me to return at least one set which was supposed to fit, but was either mis-labeled or was such poor quality, I couldn't put them on my car. I'd hate to see you buy one off e-bay and have to eat the cost of returning it..

I am going to say that is not the right control arm. I don't think that the arm is the same from 78-82. Maybe similar, but not the same. The picture on that item doesn't look right either. I would stay away for sure. There are no provisions to bolt your sway bars to. That might fit either side on the 78-81 Accords (maybe there are some 1g Accords sold as 82's in the UK), because the sway bars are bolted to the radius rod on the 1g instead of the control arm like on the 2g.

This scenario doesnt seem prety to me, i've been strugling with this problem for a week with the car stoped on the garage waiting for the arm.
The problem i have its with the ball joint, aperently it not detachable from the arm, and i have the new ball joint with me!

Re: 82 Accord EX Hatchback (European version)

Just been out to the workshop to get my Honda parts book,
    front lower arm complete
    right, 51350-SA5-000
    left, 51360-SA5-000

This is an original Honda book for the Gen JDM/euro spec printed 10.10.1981. But I think Honda changed part numbers later.
Most dealerships will probably be on the new system, not the original numbers

Wow, not sure how you got a ball joint, but you are right it doesn't separate from the arm. When you buy the ball joint, it comes with the control arm. You probably got a balljoint for a 3gee Accord.

Serious weirdness going on. Honda doesn't even know appropriate parts fitments, I don't think.

Re: 82 Accord EX Hatchback (European version)

Eduardo, ball joint and arm are all one component, Rubber boot (called 'seat suspension ball') is part no 51225-671-003, and the circlip is 53548-611-003

My epc shows both numbers for 1983

    Right 51350-SA5-000
    51350-SA5-013

    Left 51360-SA5-000
    51360-SA5- 013

    Also it lists for 1984

    Right 51350-SA5-020

    Left 51360-SA5-020

    Damned Honda's!!!

Re: 82 Accord EX Hatchback (European version)

I'm thinking that the picture below is the correct part. The early 2gens used an L-shaped bracket to mount the sway bar to the LCA, which is the 2 lower holes you see. The two upper holes are for the trailing/radius rod.

In American market, the 82-83 parts are common to each other, while the 84-85 parts differ from previous years. The track width grew 15mm, which slightly changed the angle of the radius rods mounting holes, and the system for attaching the sway bar was revised. 76-81 models clamped the sway bar from the front directly to the radius rods, and are completely different.

I have seen some LCA's advertised as fitting 82-85, which makes me question whether they enlarged the radius rod holes to accommodate both styles, or are simply incorrectly advertised.

Re: 82 Accord EX Hatchback (European version)

Good question as to whether they're mislabeled or not. But The 83 Accord I took apart had control arms that looked identical to my 84. I doubt the measurements were the same, but if you didn't see them side by side, you'd swear they were the same... Maybe they changed from 82 to 83. I would not be shocked.

I ordered the arm, lets see how it goes.
Quite cheap, a final price of 60$ inclunding the shiping to Portugal.
