    Full Exhaust- Question

So i was wondering if having full 2.25 piping would help in my situation. Currently I have Stock cat and back with a magnaflow muffler. I'm receiving my header soon and wondered if I should get all new piping and maybe a high-flow cat.

    Mods: 32/36 Weber, Header, 90k A20A1

Would the bigger piping benefit from this setup^ Or just create less lower end torque?

    You need one!!!!!!
Don't get crush bent find a decent exhaust specialist that can do mandrel bends. When i had my lude done which has an A18 (30k miles) went from stock exhaust to 2" mandrel bends with a custom 2-1 downpipe mated to a ported and flowed stock 4-2 header i gained a whopping 17lbft of torque and 5bhp (engine was stock apart from rejetted carbs and airbox mod). With your Weber, header, and the fact your a 2.0l (90k should be very healthy still) you should be able to put down at least 130-135lbft and 120-130bhp but this will be down to how well jetted your weber is. Also making sure your ignition system is up to scratch too.

As for exhaust size 2.25" should be good without killing flow and will still cater for more mods later on. 2" is still good and will give you good improvements without sacrificing low end torque but if you decide to go ITB's or Weber DCOE's etc. then will be restrictive when you hit the 170bhp mark.

From what I've done I've found stock exhaust is ok upto 150bhp, 2" is good for upto 180bhp 2.25" is good for upto 220bhp and 2.5" for anything more and small turbos 3" for big turbo only definately not N/A engines.

Thanks for the awesome post rjudgey! Considering that I won't do DCOE carbs or ITB, should I go with the 2" piping instead with mandrel bends? And I do like that low end torque Do most exhaust shops have hi-flow cats they can put on? Or does it need to be ordered? Orrr for 2" do I even need a new cat?

Messy you wouldn't by any chance have a video of you revving the car? Would like to hear how it sounds or at least know at what rpm it starts to get loud at please.

Cause I was thinking of doing this but with a stock header for now and least get loud like around 3500 or 4000 rpm would be perfect...well at least for me it would since I hardly rev it past 4k in any gear. Thanks

Hardly rev it past 4k? Weakling...
Psh, I redline it everywhere and still get 26mpg LOL no joke
but I usually only rev it up in the city.

Thanks messy, I'll talk to the muffler guy and look into a silencer of some sort or just not as loud of a muffler. How much was your setup when you ran all new pipe and got the magnaflow cat and exhaust? Just wanting a rough estimate

Kinda old, but it's what a 2.25 mandrel bent exhaust sounds like with a magnaflow cat, glasspack right after the cat, and a magnaflow muffler out the back. The hesitation is because it's like 25 degrees.

3rd gear redline is 92mph ^_^ 4th is somewhere in 120+range... but i dont wanna have the revs up there for too long so i just shift at 122mph into 5th.. and 5th redline is still yet to be known... idk if anyone has ever attempted a full 5-gear run to see how fast our cars really are

    Re: Full Exhaust- Question

you need centre box as well as rear box or way too loud and the more powerfull you make the engine the louder the exhaust will get too!! So if you added a 38/38 and a better cam, had some headwork exhaust will increase in db's and if you add DCOE's well prepare to go deaf real quick! lol!
